When you open Word 2013 for the first time, the Word Start Screen will appear. From here,
you'll be able to create a new document, choose a template, or access your recently edited
documents.
Title Bar
Shows name of program and open document. Also contains minimize, maximize and close
buttons.
The Quick Access toolbar lets you access common commands no matter which tab is selected.
By default, it includes the Save, Undo, and Redo commands. You can add other commands
depending on your preference.
Command Group
Each group contains a series of different commands. Simply click any command to apply it.
Some groups also have an arrow in the bottom-right corner, which you can click to see even
more commands.
Ruler
The Ruler is located at the top and to the left of your document. It makes it easier to
make alignment and spacing adjustments.
The Ribbon
The Ribbon contains all of the commands you will need to perform common tasks in Word. It
has multiple tabs, each with several groups of commands.
The page number indicator helps you keep track of the number of pages your document
contains.
Word Count
There are three ways to view a document. Simply click to select the desired view:
• Read Mode displays your document in full-screen mode.
• Print Layout is selected by default. It shows the document as it would appear if it were
printed.
• Webpage Layout shows how your document would look as a webpage.
Scroll Bar
Click, hold, and drag the scroll bar to scroll up and down through the pages of your document.
Zoom Control
Click, hold, and drag the slider to use the zoom control. The number to the right of the slider
bar reflects the zoom percentage.
Tabs
The Home tab contains the usual command buttons for document formats.
The Insert tab contains the command buttons for inserting objects, such as: Picture (Picture),
Shape, SmartArt, Chart, Screenshot to take a picture of the program, and so on.
The Design tab, contains the command buttons for giving theme effects on the document
worksheet, as well as the color and border of the worksheet page.
The Page Layout tab, contains the command buttons for page layout settings and paragraph
formatting.
The References tab, contains the command buttons to create a table of contents, footnotes,
indexes, and so on.
The Mailings tab, contains about the command buttons to process mass mailings, labels, and
envelopes.
The Review Tab contains the command buttons that contain MS word 2013 work sheet settings
including spelling, translate, comment, Data protection, and so on.

Formatting Toolbar
The Formatting toolbar offers shortcut buttons to help format a document quickly. From the
Formatting toolbar, you can quickly apply formatting attributes such as Font; Font Color;
Alignment; Line Spacing; Bullets and Numbering, etc, document text, to save time.

Opens a Style drop-down list from which you can

The Drawing toolbar is located at the bottom of the window, between the Horizontal Scroll bar
and the Status bar. Like every other toolbar, this also contains smart icons representing
shortcuts to Main menu commands in Word.
It holds buttons/tools used in creating drawings, such as rectangles, ovals, lines, arrows,
WordArt text, etc. It also offers tools for inserting organizational charts and ready-made
pictures and Clip Arts from their different locations. The following table shows a list of tools
offered on the Drawing toolbar, and their functions:
