free jumping for 3-year-olds at championships) and 4-year-olds under saddle
dressage—in hand classes for all ages and sometimes materiale classes under saddle for young
horses
CCI-L = FEI recognized “long” 3-phase event (dressage, cross country, stadium) of greater difficulty at each star level
CCI-S = FEI recognized “short” 3-phase event (dressage, stadium, cross country) of lesser difficulty at each star level
CDI = Federation Equestre Internationale (FEI) recognized dressage show
CT = combined test (dressage and stadium); virtually all CTs are also DSSs and JSSs in that dressage and jumping classes
may be entered separately
CTX = combined test (dressage and cross country; otherwise as CT above)
DS = dressage show (USDF/USEF/USEA/FEI individual tests as specified, possibly including pony, rider, paraequestrian and/or
tests with music—freestyle, pas de deux, quadrille—and/or group classes—equitation, suitability/materiale)
DSS = dressage schooling show (specified tests as above)
ED = eventing derby (sometimes dressage and always jumping with stadium- and cross country-type obstacles in one course)

M = Modified (fences to 3’5”, cross country speed to 490 meters/minute, distance to 3000 meters)
N = Novice (fences to 2’11”, cross country speed to 400 meters/minute, distance to 2200 meters)
NEH = New Event Horse: USEA introductory program for horses/riders new to eventing; similar to YEH program (see YH below)
P = Preliminary (fences to 3’7”, cross country speed to 520 meters/minute, distance to 3300 meters)
PC = Prix Caprilli (dressage classes that include one or more jumps)
PE = Paraequestrian (dressage classes for riders with USEF-certified disabilities)
T = Training (fences to 3’3”, cross country speed to 470 meters/minute, distance to 2600 meters)
TOC = Test of Choice (riders designate the dressage test they wish to ride)
