PACiS Solutions
The Power Control & Monitoring
& System (PCMS)

In the highly competitive and dynamic Oil and Gas sector,

innovative technology solutions can make the difference between
profit and loss. To help you stay on the top, AREVA T&D offers a
range of cost-effective and efficient solutions based on PACiS
Power Control & Monitoring System solution to manage your
energy network.

ENSURE SECURITY, AVAILABILITY AND

FUNCTIONAL INTEGRITY OF YOUR PLANT

PACiS solution gives you a complete and real-time vision of your entire
facility electrical network with an accuracy of 1 millisecond. PACiS provi-
des the operator all information to monitor, analyze and manage the
whole electrical system. All operator actions are checked and secured
automatically by all the redundant elements of the PACiS and the effi-
cient use of the IEC61850 Fast Ethernet standard communication.

REDUCE COSTS

The cost of energy is continuously increasing and directly impacts your

plant costs. Getting more from your energy, it is used in your installation
and ensure that any problem will not impact your activity is the core of
PACiS solutions. The high performance level of PACiS PCMS helps to
reduce your network dropouts directly impacting your MV and LV motor
sizes and costs .

IMPROVE RELIABILITY AND PERFORMANCE

PACiS Fast Load Shedding (FLS) module controls your energy plant stability. In case of any power source loss,
PACiS will, in less than 80ms, remove the necessary loads to maintain the whole network stability in line with
your process priorities.

BASE ARCHITECTURE

The full PACiS architecture is based on Ethernet

networks linking all Protections, Measurement units,
PLCs , local HMIs and Gateway to the Energy
Management System level.

All the equipments exchange data using the electrical

standard IEC 61850, providing standardization, fast
automation messages (GOOSE) and interoperability
between equipment suppliers.

Depending on the Site size, multiple Ethernet networks

are together connected to avoid any common failure FAST LOAD SHEDDING

of the priorities given by the Operator based on the
process impacts.

warning and alarms are associated permanently to
inform the Process Management of any risk.

Real-time network monitoring

More sophisticated monitoring is carried out via one or

more PC screens, providing additional benefits such as
busbar coloring for easier maintenance, flexible alarm

design of customers’ database solutions. PACiS offers a variety of system test modes to further
increase the overall availability.
Complete consistency of information addresses is
ensured between application modules located into one
or more devices. This is thanks to a powerful object
oriented approach, matching the substation SYSTEM EXTENDIBILITY
environment rules and standard import/export facilities.
The PACiS solution can be contained within a single
standard panel or be spread over all different electrical
distribution point of the Oil & Gaz site.

PACiS architecture is structured in a series of

hierarchical levels. Each level maintains a given
performance in terms of transmission time, automation
and dependability, independently of the other levels. It
therefore ensures the system can be extended
consistently and securely.
