STITCH ABBREVIATIONS (in Standard U.S. terms)

CH- CHAIN

SC- SINGLE CROCHET

SL ST- SLIP STITCH

STS- STITCHES

YO- YARN OVER

KST- KNIT STITCH

STITCH EXPLANATION

KNIT STITCH (KST)- A knit stitch is just like a SC except

instead of going under the top two loops like a normal SC,
you go inside the SC between the V, or the “legs” of the SC.

INVISIBLE SLIP STITCH JOIN - take a yarn needle and

thread your yarn through the bottom of the top of the next
SL ST. Now go vertically into the top of your last SL ST and
adjust the loop to look like the others. Secure by threading
through.

PATTERN DIRECTIONS

NOTES TO READ BEFORE STARTING*

*In the starting chain you will crochet into the 3rd back
loop only in order to make the bottom an even braid like the
top. This will make things easier later.

*Every round ends with a CH 1 and turn (for the base) and
SL ST and CH 1 (for the basket sides)

Page 4 of 10 Mini Ombre Basket

*All SL ST joins are made into the previous SL STS instead
of into the top of the first stitch unless otherwise stated

*The SL STS do not count as a stitch unless otherwise

stated

THE BASE

Start: Slip knot onto hook and CH 14

Row 1: SC 13 across starting in the second loop from hook-

in the 3rd back loop only. (13 sts)

Rows 2-8: SC across (13 sts)

Page 5 of 10 Mini Ombre Basket

Row 9: SC across 13 and CH 1, **You are now going to
crochet around the whole base going around the rows that
you’ve made.

You need to put an even amount of single crochets into

each row. If you have 4 rows for example then you will put
one SC in each space on the edge that corresponds with
the row. For the corners you need to put 2 SC in each so
that your work lies nice and flat and doesn’t curve.

Start by putting your first SC into the edge of the 8th row,
7th, and so on. When you get to the last row (row 1) put 2
SC.

Now you will be working on the bottom chain that you

created in the beginning. SC across the chain (13 sts).

Now going up the rows you will put 2 SC into the first row to
create your corner, 1 SC in the following rows, and 2 SC in
the last row (row 9).

Now SC 13 across the top and SC two into the CH 1 that

you made initially (48 sts)

Row 10: SL ST around the entire base. (48 sts) then when
you reach the end cut your yarn and SL ST into the next
stitch following the invisible SL ST method in stitch
explanations above. Sew in loose ends.

BASKET EDGES

Start: Make a slip knot onto your hook. Starting in the

middle of the side of your base with the right side facing up
pull up a loop from the back loop, and 3rd back loop (see pic
and insert hook into the red spaces) and make a SC.

Page 7 of 10 Mini Ombre Basket

Round 1: SC around the entire base in the BACK LOOP
and 3rd LOOP together. This will create an obvious and
stable edge around the base of the basket and will help the
sides of the basket to stand as you work up.Your slip stitch
counts as a stitch from now on. (48 sts)

Round 2: KST around (48 sts)

Page 8 of 10 Mini Ombre Basket

Round 6: KST around, on the 48th stitch complete the stitch

by making your last loop in the next color, SL ST and CH 1

Round 7: KST around (48 sts)

Round 8: KST 14, CH 7, skipping 7 stitches KST into the

8th stitch, crochet 16 more stitches, CH 7, skip 7 stitches
and KST into the last stitch (48 sts)

Round 9: KST around, making 7 SC into the loops when

you get to the loops (48 sts)
