First of all , the movie I Daniel Blake has seduced me by its impressive

realism. The scenes are shot in real places with non-professional

actors. In addition the sincerity of the main actors ,Dave Johns and
Hayley Squires ,which embody their character perfectly and which
have their own regional accent , the London accent for Katie Morgan
and the thick Newcastle accent of Daniel Blake provide a breath-
taking realism to the movie. Moreover the position of the cameras
and the very common shoot angles gave me the impression that I
was attending each scene as if they were occurring in the real life and
that I was just a simple passerby witnessing them.

Furthermore in this movie Ken Loach by portraying the reality of the

issues of poverty, races and classes in the UK manages to explore the
“ British Socialism”. The Britannic filmmaker unveils and exposes the
total apathy of the UK government toward the destitute one and he
speaks for those who can’t express themselves and who no one want
to hear. In this regard Ken Loach exposes the fact things seem not to
have changed a lot since the government of Margaret Thatcher
,Prime minister ,and Leader of the Conservative Party in England
which asserted that there is no such thing as society.

The plot of the movie is also extremely captivating. Personally I didn’t

get bored for a second watching the movie , puzzled by the future of
Katie and Daniel and thrilled by the hope that the situation of the two
destitute people get better , that they find a work again and that
Daniel Blake heart condition be arranged.
Moreover as a both powerful and emotional movie I Daniel Blake
deserves to be short-listed. The grief and the culpability of Kathie,
who feels responsible for his dramatic situation and the misery to
which her children are confronted have extremely affected me,
especially during the scene in which , in a welfare organization center
she grabs a can of food and eats his content with her bare hands like
an animal before she bursts into tears under the concerned look of
her daughter Daisy. As said Ken Loach the best story is a true one and
by depicting the sad realities of the living condition of poor people
Ken Loach made a both hearth-breaking and gorgeous movie.
Finally Ken Loach make us realize the bounty of destitute people ,
which although they aren’t rich by their money are rich by the
kindness and the generosity of their heart. For instance Daniel Blake
despite his poverty appeared to me as a gorgeous character and a
source of inspiration by his benevolence and his generosity as well as
his bravery to stand up against the dehumanization of our society
which is become merciless for those who are unable to adapt
themselves.

Nevertheless ,I find that there is an only one negative aspect of the

the movie “I Daniel Blake” which is the fact it depicts our society by a
very Manichean way opposing the apathetic and unhelpful welfare
system whose only desire would be to extend the distress of the
defenseless and destitute people.
To put it in a nutshell I decide that the movie I Daniel Blake of Ken
Loach ,despite a depiction quite Manichean of the society, by his
impressive realism, by exposing in a very committed way the
absolute indifference of the Welfare system forward destitute people
,by a thrilling plot ,and as a breathtaking and strongly emotional
movie which is a genuine momentum forward solidarity and
fraternity definitely deserves to be short-listed for an award.
