Payroll Area

A payroll accounting area (abbreviated to payroll area) is an organizational unit

containing all of the employees for whom the payroll runs at the same time. It can be
used in features, payroll schema and so on...

The payroll usually runs for payroll accounting areas. Each payroll accounting area
determines the specific dates for which the payroll runs, the earliest payroll period for
which retroactive accounting is possible and the periods for which the payroll runs.

You can configure payroll accounting areas in the table T549A with the view V_T549A.

- Payroll area : Code of the payroll area

- Payroll area text : Text of payroll area
- Period Parameters : (PERMO) Determines how often payroll is run. Each payroll area is
assigned one period parameter. Standard values can be monthly, weekly, bi-weekly.
- Run payroll : Determines whether a payroll area is active or not.

II. Payroll Control Record

The payroll control records are managed with the transaction PA03. A payroll control
record is assigned to a payroll area and allows you to manage payroll runs (payroll
period, payroll status, earliest retroactive accounting period...).
The payroll area "U3" is monthly, we will create a control record for this payroll area :

1. Payroll Status :
- Released for payroll : All master datas of employees of this payroll area can't be updated
(all infotypes are locked).
- Released for correction : All master datas of employees of this payroll area can be
updated for datas correction.
- Exit Payroll : Payroll is over for the current period.

2. Payroll Period :

Determines the period for which the payroll is run. If you fill in June 2008, it will be
automatically calculate the period from 06/01/2008 to 06/30/2008 cause it's a monthly
payroll area
3. Earliest retroactive accounting period :

If changes relevant for retroactive accounting have been made before this date, the
system does not take these into account in the current retroactive accounting run or in
future retroactive accounting. However, the system triggers a retroactive accounting run
up to this period.

III. Default Payroll Area in Infotype 0001

In order to populate the field payroll aread by default when creating an infotype 0001 for
an employee, you have too customize the feature "ABKRS" in PE03.
