1c. KEYWORDS
Please provide a maximum of 6 keywords.
Instrument Landing system (ILS), Automation system, required navigational parameters,
Reliability, Maintainability, FMECA
Name of Project Lead: Dr Chilaka Mahesh Discipline: CNS
The aim of the proposed work will be developing a quantitative model to determine the
reliability of the system/equipment. Once the reliability has been determined, the model
will be used to identify the weak points or the least reliable components in the system in
order to improve the system reliability. Thus, the results of the model can be used
to justify reliability improvements by generating information that can be used as a basis
for decision making regarding possible improvements to increase the systems’ reliability.
Even though, the reliability concept conceived for ILS but it has been extended to
Automation system as well. With existing available data the proof of concept both cases
i.e. ILS and Automation was checked and validated.
Give a description of the research in between 5 -10 pages. Information SHOULD include
specific aim(s) of the project, significance, approach, originality/evidence of novel innovation,
team lead, environment and preliminary studies/progress reports related to the research
proposal. Please emphasise on the novelty and innovative aspects of the proposed work, as
well as how the research outcome will benefit the development of AAI. References should
be provided on a separate page.
