A Review on the Jussie Smollett Case

Humans are often referred to as rational being. In fact, we are regarded as the highest form
of animal. Ironic as it may seem, our rationality is being clouded upon how we make the
circumstances in which we make the logical illogical, the stable unstable and the peaceful chaotic.

Funny thing is, no matter how much we try to put the stake in our hands, we get no control
over the people we meet or the actions other people do. But most especially, we do not have control
of other people’s thinking- how they perceive the world and how they meet its demands.

In this way, peace is being imprisoned from our hands.

THE BURNING ISSUE.

On January 29, an ‘Empire’ actor Jussie Smollett went to the police and reported the assault
that had been done to him by two men around two in the morning while he was returning to his home
in Chicago. The details of this attack is horrifying, the actor said that he “was beaten and doused with
bleach and his assailants tied a noose around his neck and shouted racial and homophobic slurs.”
Even yelled: “This is a MAGA country,” the infamous bannered Trump statement.

Everyone was about to believe and ready to symphatize with him after he gave the details to
the police, however he left every faces shocked when he turned himself in. He admitted that he had
orchestrated the attack. Although, even before the allegations merited scepticism from the very start
as police sources from and other outlets that were presented in the CNN suggest revisiting and
revising the initial report of Smollett.

Commentator Kmelle Foster put the situation in this way in an article from the “Reliable
Sources”: “Two in the morning, almost the coldest night of the year, you were attacked and someone
conveniently had a rope? My heart goes to out to anyone who gets attacked, but it’s totally
appropriate to exercise a bit of skepticism and exercise a bit of patience in waiting for the facts to
develop around this story.”

On the other hand, in an article published by CNN on February 18 showed the updates of
Smollett’s case with his attorney responded his client’s reporting by reiterating that he was a “victim
of a hate crime.”
IT WAS ALL ABOUT HATE.

This case does not only happen in the United States but also is prevalent all around the world.
Hate crime exists and this should be a growing awareness in these days. This happens because people
have their own preferences and cultivated interests that can be harmful and often leads to unjustified
stereotype which could eventually dissolve peace.

The case of Smollett definitely sent waves of reaction all over the place, the issues on racism,
heterosexism, and politics were involved. This framed incident, shook the way how people perceive
the underlying shadow that lurks behind the way one could accuse to lead imperative’ mind-washing’
society towards certain groups of individuals.

One instance in the Philippines is the recent news about a Chinese woman offensively throws
something to a Filipino security guard at the MRT station. This incident can prevail beyond
dimensions of our thought such as one can falsely conclude stereotype on every Chinese women.

On the other hand, false claims to victimization actually cover legitimate discrimination and
violent acts that disturbs one’s own reputation. This at all cost should stop.
