Likewise diabetes being very prevalent today, has some risk factors and causes. Some suffer from it
hereditarily while the others because of malnutrition or excessive eating that leads to obesity. One
cannot have control over family history but one can control eating habits and work out to help with
obesity.

According to research, almost 90% of the type 2 diabetes suffering patients are obese and advised by
the doctors to exercise daily to lose weight. However in doing so, a thorough physical check-up by the
physician is recommended before allowing increase in physical activity and suggesting the type of
exercise best suiting the physical condition of the patient.

Walk in, Work out:

Dr Shahnaz Bano, an expert specialist working in Karachi suggests regular walk for type 2 diabetic
patients. It helps regulate the body and maintaining glucose level in the blood stream. It may not help
cure it completely but it provides the necessary balance and stability which can prevent potential health
risks. But before he starts suffering, if the person is taking care of his body by exercising and maintaining
a healthy diet then it helps in preventing it altogether or at least delaying it.

NHS Diabetes Prevention Program (NHS DPP) emphasizes on active lifestyle and exercise to prevent
diabetes. Similarly, some of the other key exercises to help maintain fitness and prevent diabetes are
advised by American Diabetes Association and they include:

 Aerobic Exercises like swimming to increase the heart tolerance level and maintain the cardio
vascular fitness. It gradually helps in enhancing the lung capacity and ability to supply oxygen
timely even during vigorous activity. It also helps in boosting one's stamina thus preventing
major diabetes causes like stress and anxiety.
 Muscular endurance exercises like squatting, sit-ups and weight lifting build resistance, develop
overall body strength and eliminate fatigue improving the immune system immensely.
 Yoga, interestingly, is another brilliant training technique to help with diabetes. Yoga therapy
professionals state that unlike modern medicine, yoga affects the body from deep within. By
relaxing the mind's state it helps recover the body.

In order to evaluate how the body is responding to physical activities, one cannot overlook the vital
factor of measuring glucose level at regular intervals pre and post that exercise.
