1. Description and Specification SAC

„Low Height Design“ for flat arrangement

OT-ceiling to provide a germ-free operating area, consisting of:

Ceiling housing
stainless steel casing, for easy installation of lamp base and/or ceiling stem.

Duct connections
Duct connection in galvanized steel, with universal connection flanges.

High efficiency HEPA-Filters

According to EN 1822, class „H13“ or >99.95 %; fixed at special holding frames,
adjustable clamping device and test groove for leak-proof testing of filter cells;
Frames from Aluminium profile.

Laminar air distributor

Large-area outlet as ceiling panels made of aluminium frames with tolerance
balancing, Laminarizer of not easily inflammable, disinfectant-proof white fabric with
excellent laminar air flow, without secondary air contamination. Disturbances of flow
pattern and contamination extensively avoided.
Easy reinstallation of air distributor frame without special tools for filter media
replacing and disinfection of housing and internal equipment.

Centrically arranged for installation of the connection flanges and lead through the
lamp shaft,

2. Transport and Installation Instructions

2.1 Transport / Handling

2.1.1 The LC-S-ceiling is delivered on a wooden pallet, allowing horizontal or
vertical transport.
For the vertical handling on site by means of one or two lift trucks two square
timbers are mounted on the longitudinal side, so that the ceiling can also be
„slid“ over a smooth, solid floor.
In case of horizontal transport the fork lift truck/lifting device can be positioned
directly at the under screwed protective wooden plate.

2.1.2 For the transport into the room the min. door space should be 875/2000 mm.

2.1.3 The HEPA Filter are separately packaged in single cartons additional with
cover by foil

2.1.3 The Laminarizer segments and the required connecting screws are separately
packed in a box from galvanized steel

2.2 Preparatory works

2.2.1 Prior to the installation of the LC-S-ceiling the OT-lamp extension tube has to
be fitted; furthermore supply lines for electricity and gases, if needed, have to
be installed.

2.2.2 The carrying capacity of the raw ceiling and the selected fasteners/dowel must
be checked independently by others

2.2.3 The length of the OT-lamp extension tube must be sufficiently sized, allowing
the accommodation of all relevant flanges, connection and auxiliary
equipment in the lamp duct of the LC-S/H-ceiling.

Principally: bottom of lamp duct = 90 mm above bottom of LC-S-ceiling.

2.2.3 The OT lamp ceiling bolting must be absolutely stable and free of torsion.

2.3 Base installation

2.3.1 After the transport to the installation place (OT-room) all crate elements
(except the under screwed protective plate), including the cover plate for the
lamp duct (to be kept) can be removed.
Use suitable lifting devices (e.g. two lift trucks) to get the ceiling on mounting
level and align it to the room.

2.3.2 Special attention is to be paid to the alignment of the ceiling around the centre
of the OT-lamp. Open the inspection cover at the lamp duct and drop a
perpendicular from the centre to the bottom and carry out the exact alignment
of the ceiling.

2.3.3 For mounting are L-shaped supporting rails available, with a sufficient number
of connecting bore holes, dia. 10.5, spacing t = 300 mm, on both longitudinal
sides for the suspension of the ceiling.
Rox recommendation: Installation with thread rods, allowing exact height
alignment. Minimum number of rods is 6, size M10.

2.3.4 The connection to the raw ceiling to be carried out via a solid, traversable iron
fastening plate like drawing AH-145 (chapter 9), thus enabling the exact
alignment as described under 2.3.2 without any special demands to the
exactness of plug drill holes.
Due to the different site conditions this solution can only be regarded as a
proposal. Therefore, our supply does not include any mounting material.
Rox recommendation: Use fastening plate METU, type DB or equivalent

2.3.5 Split ceilings to be assembled and sealed at the proper installation place. The
consignment is comprising of the necessary connecting elements, sealant and
the separate assembly drawing.

2.3.6 Finally, connect the supply air ducts, lay and connect power supply of
servomotors (if any) as well as the piping of the differential pressure drop
control, see drawing AH-082 (chapter 9) For the time being, do not take off the
under screwed protective plate for the lamp duct. The revision hole in the plate
to be closed with the protective plate (2.3.1).

2.4 Fitting of OT-lamp

2.4.1 Remove the wooden protective plate under the supply air ceiling.

2.4.2 For site installation of lamp stem (arm) and for the maintenance at flanged
lamp support, the split cover of lamp duct can be taken off. Before reinserting
the cover the attached gasket must be glued carefully around the lamp stem,
see drawing AH-146 (chapter 8).

2.4.3 Not only the OP-lamp technic necessitates absolutely vibration-free and
perpendicular ceiling bolting of the lamp stem, but is of special importance for
a correct Laminarizer mounting as well and must be checked at that time.

2.4.4 Some OT-lamp manufacturers supply cover rosettes or ceiling plates for the
lamp stem (arm). These are not needed for and must not be fixed at the Rox
supply air ceiling.

2.5 Final installation

2.5.1 Prior to the final installation we recommend to carry out all site works in the
room to keep Laminarizer and filter absolutely clean.

2.5.2 The installation of the HEPA-Filters needs special care. Even the slightest
damage to the filter media during transport, unwrapping and installation
makes it unusable. When carrying or lifting the filter, only touch the outside
frame (For details see chapter 4.3 „Maintenance Instructions“.)

2.5.3 The sealed side of the HEPA-Filter to be fitted to the filter frame in the
housing. After alignment at the filter frame surface the filter is tensioned by
screwing the tension fasteners. The torque should be about 40-50 Nm.

2.5.4 The filter frame with groove and connecting nipples allows leak test according
to DIN 1946, the tubing of the test line should be made before closing of the
room ceiling on site.
Rox recommendation: Use flex. PVC tube clear, diameter inside 4,5 mm -
diameter outside 7,5 mm

2.5.5 Mounting split cover plate lamp duct as shown in drawing AH-190 (chapter 8).

2.5.6 Upper cover plate to be fixed with stand bolts on the cover plate lamp duct.
According AH-083,It 6.1-6.4 (chapter 8).

2.5.7 The laminarizers segments have to be fixed with the attached knurled screws
at the plenum of the ceiling. (Follow the marking for the position of the
laminarizers.)

Attention:

• laminarizers to be handled with care

• damaged fabric is unusable
• don’t work with open fire and/or pointed/sharp equipment
• see also chapter 3

2.5.8 Lower cover plate AH-083 It 6.5-6.9 (chapter 8) to be fixed below the
laminarizers round the lamp stem and to be bolted to the already mounted
upper cover plate Items 6.1-6.4. No gasket is needed between the lower
perforated plate inserts Item 6.8 and the lamp stem.

2.5.9 Mounting Air guidance curtain

First must be checked on site if the height between the OT lamp arms and the
lower edge of the supply air ceiling is sufficient to mount the curtain. If it is to
small the pane must be shorten.
Rox recommendation: Use therefore a hand circular saw with carbide tipped
sheet and smooth the sharp fraying with a fine venal or a knife
Mount the profiles and the pane as shown in drawing AH-814 (chapter 9) and
glue the corner careful from both sides.

3. Technical terms & handling laminarizer

3.1 The Laminarizer is a high quality special product developed by „NICKEL/ROX

3.2 The production and packing is carried out at constant climatic conditions
under clean room terms and is subject to stringent quality checks.

3.3 „Rox“’s Laminarizer serves for the generation of a stable laminar displacement
flow for clean and cleanest rooms and protects defined working areas against
particle contamination.

3.4 The application is designed for clean air only without chemical additives and is
restricted to the areas + 18 °C, 40 % r.H. to 24 °C, 60 % r.H.
Other climatic terms only in consultation with „Rox“. Prefiltering min. EU9 to
EU13 is urgently recommended.

3.5 The max. air velocity should not exceed 0.5 m/s.

3.6 The artificial or natural UV-irradiation should be avoided.

3.7 Transport and intermediate storage only in the original packing, handle
carefully and prudently to avoid damages.

3.8 In principle: damaged fabric makes the laminariser unusable.

3.9 Mounting and dismounting should be carried our by authorized employees

only.

3.10 The protective foil should be removed only immediately before mounting at the
proper place of installation.

3.11 Due to varying climatic conditions during transport and intermediate storage
laminarizers may show slight partial folds when unpacking which recede under
operating conditions.

3.12 Do not lean Laminarizer on or against the fabric.

3.13 Avoid contact with pointed, sharp or hot things.

3.14 Take care that during installation the unglued free overhanging fabric is
slightly projecting at the joints (patented density effect).

3.15 The prestressing of the fabric has been effected in such a way that under
operating conditions a light convexity of the fabric will result.

3.16.1 The fabric consists of Polyester. Do not use any aggressive substances for
cleaning and disinfection.
Rox recommendation: usable disinfectant see chapter 7.

3.17 Touch disinfected laminarizers only with sterile gloves

3.18 Defective or damaged laminarizers can be recovered in the works.

3.19 We cannot take over any warranty for damages caused by improper use and
application.

4. Replacement of HEPA-Filters

4.1 General
Based on common practice in general the replacement of HEPA-Filters in OT-
rooms does not automatically depend on the final pressure given by
manufacturer but hygienic and biological reasons need to be considered as
well.
In Germany samples were taken from the filter media and tested for bacteria.
Result of these tests was the requirement to replace HEPA-Filters after two or
up to maximum three years, independent from final pressure given by
manufacturer.
By our own experience the standard prefiltering (pre-filter EU 4 and bag-filter
EU 7) means a yearly increase of pressure drop of 30-50 Pa for the
HEPA-filter.
The nominal air flow normally causes a pressure drop of about 250 Pa for the
new filter. Based on this, replacement of the HEPA-Filter is necessary after
two (310-350 Pa) or three years (340-400 Pa).
Rox recommendation: replace the HEPA filter every two years, this saves
capital and operating costs (energy) and brings security to hygiene.

4.2 Replacement of HEPA Filters

Reinstallation and installation of Laminarizers and replacement of HEPA-
Filters should be carried out by two employees.
Please replace the HEPA-Filters at the recommended final pressure drop in
accordance with technical data sheet.
Replacement latest at air pressure drop of HEPA-Filters of 600 pa.

Ensure availability of correct replacement filters (data see spare parts list,
chapter 5).

4.3 Course of maintenance

4.3.1 For replacement take the new filter in its original, sealed packing to the OT
room.
4.3.2 Close the louver flaps in the duct system. Turn AC-system off and attach a
sign:
„MAINTENANCE WORKS - DO NOT SWITCH ON THE AC-SYSTEM“

4.3.3 Remove the Laminarizers

Laminarizer fixing device (knurling screws) can be unscrewed without any
tools.
Make sure that the polyester material (white fabric) will not get damaged.

4.3.4 Untighten the screws at the stand bolts of the filter-frame (tools: 13 mm).
4.3.5 Swing all turnbuckles to side
4.3.6 Lift HEPA-Filter with both hands and remove vertically downwards.
4.3.7 Clean the filter-frame on the SAC Housing (cleaning instruction see chapter 7)
4.3.8 Take new HEPA-Filter out of the packing (do not damage the packing, it will
be used later), and install in reverse order (see items 4.3.6 to 4.3.4).
Ensure tight fitting of filter at the fixation of housing frame.
4.3.9 Put dirty filter back into packing of spare filters and remove it.
4.3.10 Leak test with testing grooves:
Take off screw plug at measuring tube and connect leak test measuring
device airtight at measuring tube (see drawing AH-082 chapter 8).
The permissible air leak flow Vl in l/h must not be higher than the natural
leakage flow (penetration). The test pressure should at least be 2 kPa.
Take VL=permissible leak flow of each individual filter from technical data
sheet (see chapter 5.3)
Keep AC-system turned off during leak test. Each individual filter must be
leak-tested.
4.3.11 Dismount measuring device and put all screw caps back on the measuring
tubes.
4.3.12 Cleaning and disinfection of the Internal Plenum of the SAC (cleaning
instructions see chapter 7)
4.3.13 Cleaning and disinfection of Laminarizer (cleaning instructions see chapter 7)
