Sa Ta Na Ma Kriya to Balance the 5 Tattvas

“In the Age of Aquarius we must use these tools so we will not become fools. We have to go into
the Age of Aquarius with a brightened mind, a balanced self and an excellent spirit. You have to
grow in maturity as you grow in age so you cannot only be self-sufficient, but you can be self-
sufficient to uplift people. Be self-sufficient, self-efficient and self-exalted. Share that self-
exaltedness with others.

“Do not do this kriya for more than 11 minutes. Within 40 days you will perfect it; you will own
it. After 120 days you will be a different person than you are today.” –Yogi Bhajan

Posture: Sit in Easy


Pose with a straight spine, and a light Neck Lock. Place your wrists on your knees, with the arms
straight, start with hands in Gyan Mudra.

Eyes: Focus your eyes at the tip of the nose.

Breath & Mantra: Make an ‘O’ shape with your mouth. Breathe in long and slow as you
mentally chant Saa Taa Naa Maa, and repeat as you breathe out.
You must hear the hissing sound of the breath going in and out through the ‘O’ shape of the
mouth.

Mudras: With each silent repetition of the sound alternate between four mudras:

On Saa press the thumb and index (Jupiter) fingers together.

On Taa press the thumb and middle (Saturn) fingers together.

On Naa press the thumb and ring (Sun) fingers together.

On Maa press the thumb and pinkie (Mercury) fingers together.

Time: Continue for


11 minutes.

To End: Inhale deeply. Make a fist of your hands by placing the thumb on the mound of
Mercury and folding the fingers down over the thumb. Squeeze the fist tight, squeeze the whole
body tight, and hold the breath for 15 seconds. Cannon fire the breath out

Inhale deeply again and hold the breath for 15 seconds. Tighten your fists and squeeze the whole
body. Let the energy spread to every muscle. Cannon fire breath the out.

Inhale very deeply for the last time and hold for 15 seconds. Gather the whole universe of your
muscles, and everything you have. Squeeze from toe to top. Let it go and relax.

“When the Tattvas are out of balance you will be off balance. When fire is out of balance you
want to fight. When ether is out of balance you want to scratch. When water is out of balance
you are moody. When earth is out of balance you live in denial. When the 5 Tattvas are in
balance you are virtuous, smiling, powerful and attractive.

“This meditation may become difficult because it involves the entire nervous system, the body,
muscles, hormones. It is a heavy-duty thing. Keep up and concentrate. Leave everything else to
God.” -Yogi Bhajan
