ACTI-MagTM is safe to handle, it is non-hazardous to humans and the environment,

non-toxic and noncorrosive.
ACTI-Mag™ Magnesium Hydroxide slurry is used extensively for hydrogen
sulphide gas (H2S) control. Highly fluid, ACTI-Mag™ has proven to flow
easily in most dosing systems.

How does it work ?

Hydrogen sulphide is present due to anaerobic mechanisms at low pH (5).
As pH approaches 7, approximately 50% of the dissolved hydrogen
sulphide is released to the air. This has three undesirable effects:
• Toxic to workers. Exposure to very high concentrations can quickly
lead to death;
• Odour release (rotten egg gas);
• Hydrogen sulphide is converted into strong sulphuric acid (by the
action of Thiobacillus Bacteria) which can cause extensive corrosion to
infrastructure.

One of the easiest and most cost-effective ways to reduce hydrogen

sulphide generation is to provide alkalinity and maintain the pH within the
optimum range by dosing an alkali to the wastewater stream.

ACTI-MagTM has a higher neutralising value per dry kilo when compared
with caustic and lime, which lowers chemical consumption, making
magnesium hydroxide a cost competitive option due to the reduction in
plant and equipment requirements.

ACTI-MagTM is particularly effective for neutralisation and heavy metal

capture in industrial waste water treatment plants, municipal waste water
treatment plants, flue gas treatment (sulphur dioxide, chloride removal),
sugar and chemical processing.
