Arch. Gabriel P. Formoso was born in Makati, Manila


on April 9, 1915. His father is Gregorio Formoso and his mother Alvara
Papa Formoso. On April 20, 1938 Gabriel Formoso married Celia Araullo.
They have four children; Junior, Maria Erlinda, Roberto and Gabriel.

Philosophy

Formoso emphasized three points on his philosophy of design:

First, architecture is a fine art committed to creating beauty.

Second, the social nature of architecture places a unique responsibility on


the architect, that a building becomes part of the environment and
functions in a dynamic interaction with it.

Third, architecture must strive for simplicity. While some of Formoso’s


buildings are characterized by cool elegance, others are notable for their
warmth and ruggedness.
