School Environment Interaction

Instructions: Describe briefly your observations on the following:

Student-to-
Student
Interaction
Patterns

Students interact
with each other by talking about their lessons and
personal interest. They have group discussions
inside and outside the classroom. They are talkative,
friendly and actively participate with the group
activity.

Student-to-
Teacher
Interaction

Students interact with their

teacher politely. They listen attentively when the
teacher is discussing a lesson. They participate in oral
recitation and answers questions asked by the teacher.
They are also cooperative when the teacher conducts an
activity in the class.

The teacher is
friendly but at the same time strict
when it comes to her classroom
management. She always reminds her
students to maintain the cleanliness
of the classroom. Aside from the
classroom management, she teaches
her students efficiently and
encourages them to participate

Questions to ponder: Answer the questions concisely.

Why is a classroom a miniature of a greater society?

The classroom is a miniature of a greater society because the students are trained to follow the rules
and laws of the society. This is where the formal learning begins and prepares students for a broader
task and obligation in the real world. The classroom is consist of different people with different
attitudes and personality just like society. The teacher serves as a leader who set laws and help the
students to enhance their skills and capabilities so they can be more efficient and useful in the
society.

What are found in the classrooms that are similar to what can be observed in society?
As what I’ve observed there are some things that are similar in the classroom and society. First is the
teacher who serves as our second parent that guides us to become a better person. Second is the
interaction within in the classroom that teaches them how to interact with one another. And lastly is
the challenges the student face that teaches them to be strong and deal with different situations.
EPISODE TWO

Inside the Classroom

Instructions: Select and narrate briefly the best topic discussion done by the teacher while you were
doing your observation. (If possible attached some pictures to support your observation)

Narration of the classroom discussion

Based on my observation, the teacher starts discussing her lessons with a recall of the
previous topic before proceeding to the next lesson. The students are attentively listening to their
teacher. The lesson is all about random variables, its type and its possible values. In order for the
students to easily understand the lesson, she gave real life situation example like the toss coin where
the possible values would be head or tail by doing that she gets the attention of her students. She
also conducts oral participation by asking students the example of random variables based on their
understanding. Students participate and give their own interpretations of the topic. In order for the
students to fully understand the lesson she gives them board work and ends the class with a group
activity.

State your personal assessment and reflections

As I observed she is a progressivist teacher. She always ends the lesson with a group activity
to be performed by the students in front of the class. She is good both in interacting and teaching
her students. She knows how to impart knowledge in a way that the students will easily understand
it. As a future educator, I should be like my cooperating teacher that is well prepared in discussing
the topic, making discussions lively and encourages the students to participate. To be an effective
teacher we should be flexible enough to attain the needs of our students.

of students learning for proper understanding of the students and for clarification so that the
students will really learn about the said topic and teachers will reflect on how students participate in
the class. This will make way to both students and teachers express their thoughts and as result of a
harmonious relationship in the classroom.

What learning benefits could teachers and students draw from intentional classroom dialogue?
The intentional classroom dialogue will improve the communication skills of both teachers
and students. It develops their confidence in expressing their ideas and feelings. Aside from that it
enhances the listening skills of the students and process data efficiently. It also helps the students
develop their cognitive skills.

EPISODE THREE

Curriculum Implementation

Instructions: Describe briefly your observations on the following: (If possible attached some pictures
to support your observation)
Classroom environment
As I observed the classroom is clean and well ventilated. They have clean drinking water supply and
uses foot map when entering the classroom. I really like their classroom atmosphere. The teacher
emphasizes the cleanliness and grooming inside her classroom. The classroom makes the students
feel safe and welcoming.

School Facilities
School facilities like library, computer laboratories, canteen and equipment are crucial elements of
learning environments in schools. High quality educational infrastructure facilitates better
instruction, improves student outcomes, and reduces dropout rates, among other benefits. In terms
of functionality of all school facilities shown below, for school library, books are well organized but
not all books used for research purposes are available. Computer laboratory is always closed. They
also have a clean canteen that offers healthy foods at an affordable price for every student. They
also have covered court for school activities and events.

Arrangement of the Subject Matter

As I observed the teacher has a systematic set-up in sequencing her lesson. She usually begins from
simple explanation of the topic before moving to the complex one. She gives example based in real
life situation so that her students can relate and simply understand the lesson. She also gives
activities that are related to her objectives of the lesson. She emphasizes some important things to
remember. In general, I can say that she is well prepared and knowledgeable in the subject she
handles which is the probability in statistics.

Questions to ponder: Answer the questions concisely.

Why should teachers know about curriculum design?

It is very important that the teacher should know about curriculum design because they are
the one responsible in introducing the curriculum to the learners. Their teaching experiences and
knowledge helps to attain the goals and standards of the curriculum. They also facilitate to attain the
intended learning objectives sets by the curriculum guide.

What do most principles and theories of curriculum development have in common? How is the
commonality expressed or spelled out in the curriculum of the class you have observed?
Most principles and theories of curriculum development have in common in terms of
expressing the learning activities and competencies to support better learning experiences. Through
this the teacher can give emphasis on the performance of the learners. This means that if the
students has a low performance rate then the curriculum has failed, however if the learners hits the
average or above average then the curriculum is successful. This commonality was expressed in the
class through the passion and effort of the teacher to effectively impart their knowledge to their
learners and further assesses their learning by giving their oral participation, board work, seatwork
and quizzes.

EPISODE FOUR

Curriculum Stakeholders
Instructions: Copy or take a picture of the Classroom Parents Teachers Association (PTA) list of
officers of the class you are assigned to observe.

Questions to ponder: Answer the questions concisely.

How important is involvement of all stakeholders of the school in the school’s programs and
activities?
When we say stakeholders it refers to individuals or groups who have an interest or concern for
the school. They include parents, school administrators, board members, local government officials,
alumni and socio-civic groups who contribute to the development of the school community.
The stakeholders play an important role in managing schools. They are the partners of
the school leaders in making the schools conducive to teaching and learning. They are also
responsible for the achievement of the learning outcomes through their active participation
in school activities, programs and projects.

What specific principle of curriculum development justifies the importance of cooperation and
collaboration among all stakeholders of the school?

EPISODE FIVE

Curriculum design

Instructions: Describe briefly the curriculum type (Subject Centered, Experience/ Learner and
Society/Culture Based) observed in the class. Write a brief explanation to support your
observation(s).
Subject Centered Curriculum

Subject-centered curriculum design revolves around a particular subject matter or discipline. This
type of curriculum design tends to focus on the subject rather than the individual. In relation to my
observation, this curriculum was being practiced especially when students receiving lectures from
teachers and doing some activity based on the textbooks.

Experience/Learner Centered Curriculum

In this curriculum structure, students have opportunities and increased responsibility to identify
their own learning needs: to find, choose, and incorporate resources, and to construct their own
knowledge based on their needs and interests. In relation to my observation, students are given a
chance to write their own interpretations of the topic like write a reflection or make a reaction paper
to a certain issue then share their ideas to the class.

Society/Culture Based

Culture-based curriculum enhances one's sense of ethnicity upgrading the cultural status of the
community. The more the learners are exposed to culture and values formation, the better the
holistic development of the students. This curriculum emphasizes on the Cultural Heritage of our
country as well as be able to recognize the Cultural Identity of every Filipino. That is why for this new
curriculum they included the Mother Tongue wherein learners can put into practice the language
that he / she has grown up speaking from early childhood. Inside the classroom that I have observed
mostly the teacher is speaking in vernacular in order for her learners to fully understand the lesson.
Questions to ponder: Answer the questions concisely.

How important is it for teachers and curriculum planners to anchor their curricular plans to
specific theories and principles of curriculum development?

It is important for the teachers and curriculum planners to anchor their curricular plans to specific
theories and principles of curriculum development in order for them to have ideas or guidelines in
delivering classroom instruction to achieve meaningful learning. It is also because the existing
theories are proven to be effective in a class of diverse learners. As well as, it is helpful for teachers
to use theories because it can help them teach effectively and efficiently.

Aside from the teachers, who else should be involved in the curriculum planning? Expound your
thoughts.

In curriculum planning, aside from teachers, there are a lot of individuals that should be involved in
the curriculum planning, the parents, school administrators, community members that surrounds
the institution and most especially the learners. They are relevant sources to attain functionally
literate and success of the society through educating the learners. The students should be involved
in the planning so that their needs and concerns will be addressed and they will be provided the
appropriate learning opportunities and experiences to attain the intended learning outcomes. In the
same manner, the people in the community that surrounds the school should also be serves as
curriculum resource same as the parents so that they would have an idea in what means they can
support the education of their children and most importantly to support the changing needs and
condition of the society.

EPISODE SIX

Curriculum experience

Instructions: attached pictures of the class (teacher and students) you observed. Write short
captions of every picture.

Questions to ponder: Answer the questions concisely.

How do you find teaching profession after your class observation?

This experience made me realize that in teacher is one of the hard working employees in the society.
To be a teacher you should be flexible enough to adjust to your students’ needs and interest. You
serve as their second parent that is responsible also for disciplining and handling the students inside
the classrooms. Teaching profession requires a lot of patience and being wise enough to handle
unexpected situation you may encounter. I think the best way to be an effective teacher is to be
passionate in what you are doing because if you have that passion in teaching it attracts positive
outcomes and everything else will follow.
