I. INTRODUCTION
The United Architects of the Philippines Student Auxiliary (UAPSA), a duly
recognized student organization of the United Architects of the Philippines,
aims to motivate and instill discipline among architectural students and to
propagate the goals and aspirations of architects in the country.

For National Architecture Week 2019, the United Architects of the Philippines,
in coordination with the UAPSA, will host a PHOTOGRAPHY COMPETITION
for UAPSA members with a theme “Homeless”, addressing local issues in
housing of people within or below the poverty index of the Philippines.

II. OBJECTIVE
The Architectural Photography competition shall intensify the artistic side of
Architecture students showcasing and exemplifying their perspectives with
their sense of empathy to the reality of the present era to show awareness
and concern with the lack of housing facilities in the country today. It shall let
you see the unique perspective of what is real; captivating the life of a space,
narrating a story of a building with its environment in order to truly understand
our present situation.

III. COMPETITION THEME


Abot TaNAW: Tahanan Para Sa Lahat
“Homeless”

The project should demonstrate how an “Architect” sees and analyzes his
environment relating to housing backlogs and demonstrate the architect’s role
as a thinker, a reformer, an activist, and a visionary in the community.

IV. DELIVERABLES

✓ One image file containing one A3-sized layout in landscape format

✓ Printed one A3-sized layout in landscape format photo on white foam


board

✓ A Statement of 100 to 300 words (max.), with font size: 12, in .doc format
to explain the overall thought of the photo

V. CATEGORIES

• Exterior Photography
“Exterior Images” should be taken from outside of a building/structure.
Consider the physical status of the building, its materials and relevance
to the built environment.

• Interior Photography
“Interior Image”’ should be taken from inside of a building/structure, its
spaces and how it is occupied by the users.

VI. COMPETITION RULES AND REQUIREMENTS


a. Participant Requirement
Only bonafide current UAPSA member of any year level may submit.
Strictly one entry per chapter / school per category, totaling 2
participants per chapter / school. A single participant CANNOT join both
categories.

b. Entry Eligibility
• A recommending letter each from the (1) Chapter President, (2)
Chapter Adviser and (3) Department Head or College Dean should
be attached upon submission.
• A duly completed and signed Registration Form in .pdf format must
also be submitted. The Chapter should submit the list of the names of
the participants not later than October 30, 2019. An attached form
herewith should be filled up and submitted to
uapsa.naw19@gmail.com with a subject “NAW19 (Category)
Photography Competition”.

Note: The participant enumerated on the entry form shall already be


final and cannot be changed once submitted. Any member of
the UAPSA National Board of Directors are not allowed to join
along with the Standing Committee members of National
Architecture Week 2019.
c. Registration Form
There is no registration fee required from the participants. To enter the
Architectural Photography Competition, all Participants must first register
to express their intent to join by filling out a registration form attached
hereto. The registration form is only available online. Each registrant will
be given their corresponding numbers that will be used throughout the
competition.
d. Submission
Participant shall also submit the requirements (see IV. Deliverables) in
flash drive (USB, for the purpose of further exhibition and publication), at
the UAP Headquarters, Scout Rallos, Quezon City until 5:00p.m. only
(See Section VIII. Schedule). The electronic files of the entries shall be
submitted with a file name: NAW19_Photography_(Category)_Chapter.
Please note that no entry shall be accepted via e-mail.
e. Markings
No identification marks shall appear on the graphic layouts and the Design
Statement. The participants shall keep their entry confidential and take
necessary steps to ensure it is not disclosed to any third partiy throughout
the competition until the public announcement of results. Otherwise, the
Committee has the right to disqualify any entry that did not follow this
provision.
f. Medium of Photography
Participants may use any camera, DSLR, Digital Camera, Smart Phones
or alike.
g. Photo Editing
Minor adjustments— including brightness and contrast, dodge and burn,
sharpening, and slight color adjustments—are acceptable.
Images submitted must be photographs - digital compositions will not be
accepted.
h. Ownership of Photo
Images should be original and owned by the participants; entries mus not
have been published or have won in any prior contests.

i. Settings
Photo should be taken anywhere within the Philippines in the current year
(2019) only.

j. Criteria for Judging

Relevance to Theme and Originality 40%


Technique and Mastery 40%
Online Voting (total tally through reactions
in all NAW2019 social media sites) 20%
Total 100%

VII. TERMS AND CONDITIONS

a. Exhibition and Publication Entries


The organizer is entitled to display or exhibit on any date and in any venue
the entries or any part thereof and publish including the report of the
category events together with any selected entries.
b. Assessment Guidelines
The entries who have complied to the requirement will be judged in
accordance with the broad assessment guidelines and criteria. The
decision of the Jury shall be final and binding on all parties concerned and
decisions cannot be appealed against. Participants do not have the right
to request for access on the Jurors’ comments or records on the
adjudication.
c. Intellectual Property Rights
Intellectual Property Rights belong to the authors, but upon submitting an
entry to the category, the participant declares, warrants, agrees and
undertakes that the submission (Intellectual Property Rights inclusive)
would be used for promotion/ publication of the event..

d. Awards
The awards are as follow: (Per Category)

• 1st Place
• Cash Prize – P10,000.00
• Certificate
• 2nd Place
• Cash Prize – P7,500.00
• Certificate
• Individual certificates
• 3rd Place
• Cash Prize – P5,000.00
• Certificate

Note: Whether you will attend the Awarding Ceremonies on December 14


or not, you still have the right to join the competition.
VIII. SCHEDULE
• October 21, 2019 (Monday): Competition announcement;
• October 30, 2019 (Wednesday): Submission of registration forms with
three (3) recommendation letters from their Chapter President, Chapter
Adviser, and Department Head or College Dean, via e-mail
(uapsa.naw19@gmail.com)
• November 29, 2019 (Friday): Submission of photograph on one (1)
A3 size (15” x 30”) foam board; with e-file on flash drive (usb) at the
UAP Headquarters, Scout Rallos, Quezon City until 5:00p.m. only
• December 6, 2019 (Friday): Publication of Shortlisted Entries on
Facebook

• NAW Awarding (December 14): Announcement of Competition
