PRELIMINARY

Learning is a reciprocal process between students and educators in the context of

understanding a particular material. National Education System Law No. 20 of 2003
states learning is "the process of interaction of students with educators and learning
resources in a learning environment". The statement is similar to Sudjana's opinion
that "learning can be interpreted as any systematic and deliberate effort to create
educational interaction activities between two parties, namely between students and
educators". The application of learning in the educational environment can be carried
out in various fields, including in the subjects of art and culture at the junior high
level.

Art is a very important container in an effort to grow the potential in learners. Art
activities to provide expression and creative space can be carried out through sound
media or music art. Music is the dominant type of art with elements of sound (tone) in
its presentation. The series of tones presented with certain rules and media gives an
aesthetic impression in the realm of the human senses. The response that arises in the
human senses is built by the elements that make up the musical presentation,
including the tone, rhythm, and harmony. According to Jamalus (1998: 2)
understanding of musical elements will be obtained through teaching called basic
music theory. Learning basic music theory can be applied to music art material in the
subjects of art and culture.

Basic music learning at the junior high level has various types of elements that
can be a topic of discussion in learning activities including the elements of tone. The
tones which are the elements that form music can be arranged in the form of notations
so that the melodic elements of the song will appear. The song is a melodic dish
consisting of arrangements of tones that can be understood with intonation techniques
with certain processes in learning activities.

The process of learning basic music material at the junior high level in its
application can use various types of methods and media to facilitate teaching and
learning activities. Learning basic music can provide meaningful understanding for
students through musical experiences including listening, singing, playing music,
moving to follow music, and reading music, so students get a comprehensive picture
of the expression of a song.
The method is an approach by means and systematic steps in order to convey
information. The method used in conveying basic music theory information is
generally supported by a specific set of technologies, one of which is offline
application based. Offline learning-based music learning media is used to facilitate
teachers and students in the context of transferring information. Offline application is
a device that has the ease of use in various spaces (portable). Another advantage is
that offline application is a simple form of hardware device so it is more affordable in
terms of technical and material aspects. The device used in learning basic music is
"perfect piano" which is an offline application based device.

Perfect piano application is a music application in the form of piano instruments,

keyboards and organ that is presented in the form of offline application-based
technology. The application of perfect piano is widely used by students, one of them
is in the environment of SMP Negeri 5 Malang to facilitate the learning of basic
music in art and culture class VII A. The perfect piano application was chosen
because it is very accessible and as a response to the development of technology 4.0
in the world of education.

METHOD

This study uses a descriptive qualitative approach with a single embedded

strategy because it focuses on class VII A SMP Negeri 5 Malang. Data analysis uses
interactive model analysis because it can examine each of the interconnected paths. In
the interactive model, data reduction and data presentation shows the results of data
that has been collected and verified. The place of research was carried out at Malang
State Junior High School which addressed at Jalan Wage Rudolf Supratman No.12,
RT./ RW: /RW.3, Rampal Celaket, Kec. Klojen, Malang City, East Java 65111. The
research was conducted from February to May in the academic year 2017/2018 with
the reason that time is an active activity of class learning.

Data sources in this study were art and culture teacher named Mrs. Hermawati as
informant, documents in the form of photos, pictures, learning tools including RPP,
syllabus, academic calendar, prota and promissory notes, and the book "Arts and
Culture" revised edition in 2017. Data collection techniques using interview,
observation and documentation. The sampling technique used is purposive sampling
in which the sample is chosen so that it is relevant to the research design.
RESULTS AND DISCUSSION

Results

The implementation of music learning based on offline application class VII A

at SMP Negeri 5 Malang has preparations made by teachers and students in the hope
that the learning will run smoothly. The preparation includes preparing the material to
be delivered, choosing the methods and media used and evaluating learning.

The learning of basic music art in class VII A in SMP Negeri 5 Malang in its
implementation in the past year has an inhibiting factor that causes the learning results
to not be maximized and the grades obtained by students are still fairly sufficient.
Based on these conclusions it can be stated that the understanding of the material in
each student has not reached the specified standard. Some inhibiting factors in the
implementation of basic music art class VII A in SMP Negeri 5 Malang include:

1. The material contained in the revised edition of the book "Art and Culture" in 2017
which is a handbook of students and teachers has music material that is not in
accordance with the level of competence of students in class VII A. The music
material has the subject of discussion about "Singing with One Voice" the table of
contents of the subject matter consists of the notion of singing Unisono, vocal
techniques and vocal practice. Based on the table of contents of the subject matter, it
can be stated that the music material on "Singing with One Voice" in the revised
edition of the book "Arts and Culture" in 2017 has not been specific and omits the
basic material in the competencies of students at that level.

2. Media that can be used to support music material has limitations and the price is
fairly expensive.

3. The method used in learning music material about "Singing with One Voice" class
VII A in SMP Negeri 5 Malang in its implementation in the past year has not seen
aspects of creativity and aesthetic communication between students and teachers.

4. The evaluation used in learning music material on "Singing with One Voice" class
VII A in SMP Negeri 5 Malang in its implementation in the past year was limited to
instruction from the teacher without considering the essence contained in the learning
of music art.
5. Facilities and infrastructure in SMP Negeri 5 Malang can be said to not have the
specified standard, this can be proven by the presence of a number of musical
instruments that are damaged and limited in number, as well as a room that has a very
small size or area for the number of students in class VII A..

Discussion

Based on the facts and conditions that have occurred about learning music
material "Singing with One Voice" class VII A in SMP Negeri 5 Malang, researchers
provide ideas and alternative solutions that include material, media, methods,
evaluations and infrastructure in the implementation of further learning. The
following are ideas and alternative solutions that can be used in the implementation of
learning music material "Singing with One Voice" class VII A in SMP Negeri 5
Malang, including:

1. Material is determined based on competence at the age level of class VII A students
in Malang State Junior High School. The basic material that can be given at the level
of competence of class VII A students of SMP Negeri 5 Malang is an introduction to
the notation and its elements. The notation is a "number" notation so that it becomes
simpler and easier for students to understand. The material describes how to read and
write numerical notations in a simple form, so that little by little students begin to
listen and understand the scales in the form of numerical notations.

2. Media that can be used by students to be oriented in tones (listening and

understanding the scales) so that it supports the notation material and its elements,
which are offline application-based media called "Perfect Piano".

3. The methods that can be used in the introduction to the notation and its elements
are lecture, question and answer and demonstration methods. The lecture method is
used to explain how to read and write numerical notations with the proper rules for
writing notations (dimensions, beats / tempo, tone positions), in addition to explaining
how to use the basic application of "perfect piano". Question and answer method is a
very important method used to attract students' responses and understanding by
considering moments, creativity and aesthetic communication suitable for question
and answer between students and teachers or students and students. Question and
answer method can be in the form of a quiz by giving a certain appreciation to
students, so as to foster an attitude of competition in each individual. Language in
conveying material and quizzes can use the language of humor, straightforward and
relaxed so as to build aesthetic communication between teachers and students.
Demonstration method is a method that can be done by the teacher and during the
learning process. The demonstration method is used by the teacher to describe the
material in detail for example in demonstrating the application of "perfect piano". The
demonstration method can be done by students when learning takes place and is
outside the context of learning, because the application "perfect piano" is a device that
has ease of use in various spaces and times (portable).

4. Evaluations conducted on students include using the quiz method, demonstration /

presentation in front of the class and practice exercises. The quiz and demonstration /
presentation method in front of the class aims to determine the level of speed of
students 'responses in understanding the material, as well as getting students used to
talking, expressing opinions (arguing) in class forums and giving ideas, ideas and
training students' courage in expression. Evaluation in the form of practice exercises
is used to determine the level of understanding (cognitive) of students after all the
material is delivered by the teacher.

5. Facilities and infrastructure used to support basic music material about number
notation and its elements, consisting of three scales namely maximum scale,
minimum scale and effective-efficient scale. The maximum scale is a scale with a
very decent tool and space that is a musical instrument in the form of a keyboard or
piano with more than one number and a room that has an area that is suitable for
students of class VII A in SMP Negeri 5 Malang. The minimum scale can be a
substitute tool for the maximum scale, ie the keyboard or piano becomes simpler,
pianika. The effective-efficiency scale is the most applicable scale using the
application of "perfect piano" inside and outside of learning with the aim of
responding to the development of technology 4.0 in the world of education and
providing solutions within the limitations of reaching the maximum and minimum
scale.
