COURSE DESCRIPTION
     Builds on the concepts learned in
previous math courses. Develops students'
ability to think mathematically and develop
their conceptual understanding of
mathematics and procedural fluency in
mathematics. Math 1 will use real-world
models, manipulatives, graphs, and
diagrams to help students view how
mathematics is a set of related topics.
     Students are expected to work on warm-
ups, take notes, complete assignments,
ask/answer questions, keep notebooks
organized. Homework will be assigned each
night and discussed the next day.  -  Three ring binder

 ABSENCES & TARDY POLICY
Students are expected to be in class and on
time every day!
Your presence in this class is vital to your
success in this course. It is YOUR responsibility
to find out what materials/notes were missed
and to makeup that work. If an assessment
was missed, you must arrange a tutorial time to
make it up in a timely manner. Please refer to
the VMCCA student handbook for more details
on the specifics of our school policy for
repeated tardies and absences.
TUTORIALS & REMEDIATION  Construct a graph or table from given
Hawks Nest tutorials are scheduled during lunch.
Any student can attend for extra help or to work
on assignments.
Mrs. Parrish has the right to assign ANY student
mandatory tutorial if she deems it necessary.
Some reasons may include missing assignments
or failing grades.   gives students the right to bring their own

OPPORTUNITY FOR GRADE
RECOVERY
There is a Quarter 3 and Quarter 4 Exam. Both
count as a test grade, but can also be used to
replace previous TEST grades (not projects) in
that quarter. This allows for mastery to be shown
even after a unit is completed.  use critical thinking and perseverance.
PREREQUISITE SKILLS
Students should have successfully completed
Math 8. Being competent in the following
skills will aid in success for this course: 
Using the distributive property and combining
like terms to solve simple algebraic equations
with one variable using addition and subtraction.
Determine the values or rule given a table or
graph by identifying patterns.
Describe how a graph represents the
relationship between two quantities.
categorical data and compare in a graph or
table.
ELECTRONIC DEVICES
VMCCA is a Bring Your Own Device school. This
devices which can be used for teacher directed
classroom activities. Devices can aid in learning
but can also serve as a distraction when used
improperly. Our Math 1 classroom policy is that
phones will be put away during class, unless
otherwise instructed. This includes the entirety of
the class period each day. Failure to follow the

It is imperative that students shows mastery of
each objective to proceed to subsequent topics. In
order for this to occur, a few things are
paramount. Attendance is vital to the
mathematical learning process as absences will
result in missed class discussion or activities that
build conceptual understanding. Homework is a
