ABSTRACT
• This experiment describes the behavioral study of coconut
fibre & shell in concrete structure. The addition of coconut
fibre and shells into small pieces in concrete that can
improves various engineering properties of concrete.
Coconut fibre is treated as natural fiber before using in
concrete. Addition of coconut fibre & shell improves the
compressive strength,flexural strength,split tensile strength
of concrete.
• The experiment is conducted on high strength concrete with
the addition of fiber with 3 mix proportions (1%, 2%, 3%)
by the weight of cement and coconut shells partially
replaced by coarse aggregates about 3 mix proportions
(15%,30%,45%) respectively with concrete cubes. The
compressive strength and split tensile strength of cured
concrete evaluated for 7days,14days,28days.
• This results shows coconut fiber & shells can be used in
concrete structure.
• By addition of coconut fibre & shell to reduce the weight of
the concrete structure.
INTRODUCTION
§ Concrete is the most widely used construction material
in all over the world.
§ Various types of fibres are used in concrete to it make
more strong, durable and economical. Natural fibre such
as coconut having physical and mechanical
characteristics that can be used in the development of
concrete material. These coconut fibres are easily
available in large quantity and are also cheap.
§ The introduction of coconut fibres&coconut shells are
solutions to develop concrete with enhanced the
engineering properties such as compressive strength and
also is a new form of binder that could combine
Portland cement in bonding with cement.
OBJECTIVES

To study the engineering properties of coconut shells and coconut fibre

concrete.
To design concrete mix for class of M20 or M30 .
To determine slump of coconut shell and coconut fibre with that of mixed
proporations.
Finally, to conduct compressive strength on cubes.
ADVANTAGES
Ø It provides good workbility conditions for speed
construction
Ø It promotes green construction
Ø Coconut shells are more resistant towards crushing, impact
& abrasion
Ø Production of light weight concrete
Ø Producing economic concrete by reducing the cost of
material
Ø Addition of cocnut fibre improves the compressive
strength, flexural strength&split tensile strength of concrete
Ø It reduces the weight of concrete
