RE: 19-P04859, Weapons Offense

On December 18th, 2019 at approximately 08:58AM Officials with the Promontory Charter School in Perry
reported a 10 year old student being in possession of a handgun in the school. School officials reported that they had
recovered the weapon from the student.

Perry PD Officers responded to the school where they contacted the student and recovered the weapon from
officials. Officers were able to confirm nobody was injured.
Upon further investigation it was determined that the student brought his father’s 9MM handgun to school to
show his friends. It was also determined no threats were made by the student.

The firearm remains in Perry PD custody and this case will be sent to the Box Elder County Attorney’s Office to
review for charges.

Perry PD is extremely grateful this incident was resolved and that nobody was harmed. We are asking firearm
owners to give serious thought into how they are storing their weapons at home. Especially if there are children around...

Thank you,
