Classroom Community Plan

EXPECTATIONS
• Be on time, on task, and prepared to learn.
• Keep personal electronics put away.
• Be responsible for your own learning.
• Respect the teacher, the students and the classroom.
If you fail to abide by these expectations, possible consequences include:
• Verbal Warning
• Parent Notification
• Detention
• Discipline Referral / Write-up
• Other consequence at the teacher’s discretion.

ABSENCES &TARDIES
You must be on time to class, unless something happens, then you need to go to
the office and get a tardy slip.
If you are absent, you need to access google classroom and check the activities
we did in class to come prepare for next day. You can get the activities
worksheets from the baskets in the classroom.

LATE OR MISSING WORK

• Unless otherwise specified (such as for projects or presentations),
assignments are due at the beginning of class on the next school day.
• Assignments can be turn in late, but they may be reduced by 10%. Late
assignments can be done during tutoring time or during Saturday school.

ROUTINES AND PROCEDURES

• If we are working in class, you are expected to be working on the assignment,
not chatting or working on assignments for other classes. “I’m going to do it
at home” is not an acceptable alternative.
• At the beginning of class, we will have 10 mins to write on our journals, so you
are required to submit responses to specific prompts. Responses should be in
Spanish and they need to address the prompt(s).
• If you have a question, raise your hand, if I am talking to the class or someone
else just wait for your turn.
• If you need to use the sharpener or any supplies you need to do it at the
beginning of class.
• You will get 5 passes throughout the semester to use the restroom. Please
used them wisely.

• Before leaving the classroom, you must make sure you clean off your desk or
table, pick up any trash, and put work to take home in the homework folder.
Only after the class is organized, you can pack up and sit quietly until the bell
rings.
• For fire drills or fire alarm sounds, you need to stop what you are doing and
calmly follow the teacher’s directions and quietly walk out the door.

STUDENT SUPPORT
Tutoring will be offered every Wednesday after class. If you have any questions
about anything, please email me directly with any questions about the course.
You can expect a response right away (except weekends).

Dear Parents,

My name is Mariana Penaloza I am a Spanish teacher and I am glad to welcome

you and your child to my classroom this year. I earned my degrees from
California State University of Fullerton. I taught Spanish literacy to adults in the
ESL classroom for three years and this year will be my first year teaching high
school. I am looking forward to meeting each student of my class and their
parents.

In this class, all students will develop linguistic and cultural literacy, including
academic knowledge and proficiency in the language. This class introduces the
Spanish language to students in the areas of reading, writing, and conversation.
In advanced Spanish, students will continue enhance their ability to effectively
communicate in Spanish in the areas of reading, writing and speaking. To be
enrolled in the class students must have teacher consent. Class is conducted 90%
in Spanish as discussed in the standards. This year, I am also planning activities
to develop the creative skills and interests of my students. I hope to make this
academic year, an educational as well as a fun-filled year for the students.

If you would like to meet me to discuss your child's performance or to talk about
anything, there are many ways that you can contact me so please feel free to call
me at 714-999-0000 or email me at mspenaloza@edu.com; you can also message
on my website https://mspenalozaspanishclass.weebly.com or we can also meet in
person during lunch break hours or after school. It will be appreciated if you tell
me a day before to schedule the meeting. I hope to see you during our open house
so you can visit the school and speak with me about your child's progress, needs,
and abilities.

Yours Sincerely,
Ms. Penaloza

For my class, I have decided that I will provide all this information in a form of a
syllabi and in my website. Students and parents need to go over the information
at home and they need to sign the last page of the syllabus.

Rationale

I chose these expectations because I’ve been struggling with classroom

management, my students are always tempted to use their phones in class.
Sometimes they also don’t come prepared to class and I have to provide paper and
pencils and I feel that once it is ok but if there are always the same students, I think
they just don’t want to work.

My absences and tardy policy is based on what most schools do or what my current
school do. So, students need to go to the office first if they are late and if they are
absent they get extra time to work on the homework and activities from class. For
my late work part, I also followed what most schools do, my current school allow
students to turn anything in late before the end of the grading period. They prefer
students passed the class and give them a lot of opportunities and turn
assignments instead of just falling the class. But for my class, I will make sure my
students know they must do all work on time because they will have all the time in
class to do it.

My routines are based on what I have been doing in class, so I want my students to
have some time in class to do some quick writes or creative writing journals about
personal prompts that are related to the lesson in some way. Most of my choices
are based on what I have observed in schools and what is appropriate according to
the districts. Once I have my own classroom I might add more routines and
procedures based on the culture of the school.
