Cristin M. Hall & Hunter J. Leah. A survey of K-12 teachers Utilization of Social networks as a

professional resource. Education and Information Technologies. Doi10.10007-017-9627-9

1.) Almost everybody in the world use some type of social network. Rather it is Twitter,
Facebook, My Space, and Instagram. The authors of this study had two purposes. The first
purpose of the study wanted to share results from a survey that examined patterns of social
network application use among K-12 teachers in the United States. Additionally, researchers
wanted to explore the most popular applications that are used by teachers and the most popular
reasons for their use. Specifically, researchers wanted to examine whether teachers who had
lower trust in social networks are better able to judge the quality of an educational strategy from
that social network.

2.) Researchers in the study recruited teachers who is a member of the National and State
professional organizations for teachers. In this study researcher’s recruited 154 certified K-12
teachers who are employed at school districts in the United States. There were 136 female
teachers and 18 male teachers which age ranged from 22 and 71 years of age. Moreover, sixty
percent of the teachers had obtained Master degrees.

3.) In addition, researchers had two studies. The first study included an online survey about
participant’s demographics. Which included their gender, age, ethnic background, current
position in the school, how many years have they invested in the school system, and their current
education level. The second study asked participants questions in subsections. The first section
asked participants about their comfort level with this particular study. Followed by questions
about how often they use social network sites. Participants could also report any other source of
a social media website using an open- ended question. Correspondingly, participants who stated
they log on to social media websites frequently were then led to questions about trust.

4. This research study was very reliable because researchers used the Likert types scale for each
subsection on the survey. The reliability in the comfort with social networks is 0.96. Similarly,
the reliability in the use of social network sources was 0.82 and with the subsection with trust
researchers did not provide a number for reliability. In addition, the reliability for the selection of
empirically based strategies was 0.88 for reading, 0.90 for math, and 0.88 for classroom
management. In the Comfort reliability sub section, there was an issue with a low reliability of
the reverse scored questions on the scale. To resolve the problem researchers removed three
questions when the inferential analysis was conducted. This is one reason why the study was
reliable because when a problem occurred in the comfort reliability section researchers discarded
those questions. Likewise, researchers fully describe the relationship with members. Moreover,

the setting was fully described by implementing where the location of the study. Similarly,
professionals in the study had various observations and interviews that was documented using
multiple means. For instance, researchers first used an online survey and based on their
participants answers to various questions they would be allowed to advance to the next phase.
5. Descriptive Statistics was used to measure social network use, comfort with social networks
trust of social networks, EBP reading, EBP math, and EBP CM. Researchers found that the mean
social network was 20.76 with a standard deviation of 10.42. The range for social network use
was between 0.00-64. Comfort with social networks mean was 20.11 and the standard deviation
was 7.47. In addition, the range was 0.00-32. Trust of social networks mean was 0.53 and the
standard deviation was 0.39 with a range of 0.00-2.47. Empirical Strategies for reading mean
was 14.81 with a standard deviation of 7.99 and a range of 0.00-30. Empirical strategies for math
had a mean of 14.17 with a standard deviation of 8.34 and a range of 0.00-30. Likewise, the
Empirical strategies for classroom management mean was 23.05 and standard deviation was 9.40
and the range was 6:00 threw 43.50.

6. This research study is exemplary because of two research efforts. The first research effort was
aimed to address demographic characteristics of teachers using social networks. Likewise, this
research study wanted to examine the purposes of which teachers are using social network sites
professionally. The researchers conducted an excellent job of ensuring that the participants were
comfortable. In addition, was the information confidential. I often search Pinterest for different
information concerning projects. Likewise, did researchers observed participants taken the
survey, or could the participants take the survey with friends and coworkers simultaneously
which would hinder the results of the survey.
