SHREVEPORT, LA – Sound Fighter˚ Systems (SFS) becomes first company to utilize round perforations in
its’ SonaGuard˚ fiberglass noise barrier panels. “While we have seen FRP panels utilize cut or drilled lateral
“slats” in their panels, we believed the use of traditional circular perforations would provide better acoustics
and strength.” says Murray Stacy, VP of Sound Fighter Systems. “The challenge has been the difficulty of
drilling or punching holes in-line during the pultrusion process. But our team has developed the technology
to do so, and the acoustical and structural tests confirm the benefit of round versus slatted perforations.”
Acoustically, a tested NRC of 0.0 indicates perfect reflection; and an NRC of 1.0 (or greater) indicates perfect
absorption. The SonaGuard˚ testing yielded an NRC of 1.05. Similarly, an STC value of 30 or higher is
considered good for most outdoor applications. The SonaGuard˚ testing yielded an STC of 35.
SFS conducted both physical testing and formal engineering calculations to confirm the strength and
deflection capabilities of the new panel. Stacy continues, “Structurally, the SonaGuard˚ panels tested
extremely well. Depending on the wind load at the site, we can span up to 18 ft. From the Bering Sea to the
Florida Keys, we can meet any standard wind load or deflection requirement.”
“We are very pleased with these test results,” adds Patrick Harrison, President of Sound Fighter, “This level of
durability and performance places our SonaGuard˚ noise barrier system amongst the strongest and highest-
performing absorptive sound panel systems in the world, and it exceeds the performance thresholds for the
vast majority of noise-absorption requirements.”
In addition to new barrier applications, SonaGuard˚ sound panels are also ideally suited as a replacement
option for failing steel or concrete sound walls. The system weighs less than 5 lbs per sq/ft, can be cut to
any length, is ideal for use on weight-sensitive structures like bridges or rooftops, and the non-corrosive, long-
term durability of fiberglass in harsh outdoor environs is well documented via many different products and
industries over decades. Contact Sound Fighter® Systems for more information and specifications on the
