OBJECTIVES
• KNOWLEDGE: Pupils acquire the
knowledge of parts of speech

• COMPREHENSION: pupils
comprehend & understand the
parts of speech.
WHAT IS PARTS OF
SPEECH ?
 Def: words in the sentences are
divided into different classes
according to their nature and
functions, they are called parts
of speech.

 There are eight parts of speech.

Noun
Noun is the name of a person, thing, place or
animal.

Pronoun
A Pronoun is a word which is used instead of a
noun.
Ex. She is a lady.

Ex. He is Rahul Dravid

Ex.
We are Indians.
Verb
A verb is a word which describes the action or condition of
the subject, i.e, what subject does, or what happen to it, or
what it is.

Ex. • He is receiving the


telephone.

Ex. • It is reading.

• It is fluttering.
Adverb :
An Adverb is a word that modifies a Verb , an Adjective,
or another Adverb.

Ex. It was very tragic.

Adjectives
An Adjective is a word which qualifies a noun
and adds something to its meaning.

Ex.
 Giraffe has a
long neck.

Ex.  It is a beautiful
flower.

Ex.  It Is a tall
building.
Preposition:
Preposition is a word which is usually placed
before a noun or pronoun to show the latter’s
relation to some other word in the sentence.

Ex.
They are grazing
in field.

Ex. We are fond of ice


cream.
Ex. The boy is sitting on
a chair
Conjunction:
Conjunction is a word which is used to
join together words, phrases or clauses.

Ex.
 Raju and Ravi are
friends.

Ex.
 Catch me if you can
Interjection:
Interjection is a word of exclamation,
expressing a sudden feeling or
excitement.
