My Experience at Hippie Hollow Park

A Hippie Hollow Review and Expertise:

My pals and I'd drive to one of the many small coves on the lake and spend the day
swimming, windsurfing, or just soaking up Texas sun.
Lake Travis is a recreational beacon for Austin. It's a man-made lake, among the clearest
lakes in Texas, and was created when the Mansfield Dam, built between the years of 1937
and 1941, impounded the Colorado River. It's encompassed by 270 miles of shoreline with
numerous secluded coves, and it is been carried with many species of significant game fish.
I am not much of a fisherman. I can't even swim, so the scuba diving and windsurfing tasks
weren't especially alluring to me. I went to sunbathe and hang out with my friends. I also
went to check out something that one of my classmates casually mentioned to me one day at
lunch: Hippie Hollow Park was a naturist beach.
Hippie Hollow was among the many secluded coves of Lake Travis. It wasn't any nicer or
worse than the other coves, but the nudist feature was of great interest to me as a young
college male.
I had never been to a nude beach before. To be honest, at that time I Had never seen many
naked people in any setting, but that was my primary fascination with Hippie Hollow. I
envisioned it to be some wonderland of naked college women who'd be lounging around on
the shoreline for free viewing. In some of my more excited instants, I envisioned nude
volleyball contests, naked Frisbee, and naked gymnastics. The suitability of a sand for
gymnastics, clothed or unclothed, never entered into my hormone-driven thoughts.
Certainly one of my school buddies was a young woman from France. She'd a really
nonchalant approach towards unclothed beaches. They're, apparently, not a big deal in
France. When I kept returning to this issue repeatedly, she eventually asked me if I want to
visit Hippie Hollow Park with her and her friends that weekend. I agreed instantly.

Her casual attitude toward nudity did not go as far as sex. I'd already questioned her. To her,
unclothed sunbathing and sex were greatly different matters. When we arrived at the cove,
she removed her top and cutoff shorts at the automobile. She wore bikini bottoms, but no top.
She looked at me, standing there staring at her breasts, and counseled me to calm down
before we left the car. I can't quite describe her attitude. It was like commiseration, wit, and
disdain all rolled into one.
Q. Just so you know, lots of folks in the naturist community were upset by some of those last
comments you made during the show. Not one man interpreted it as you joking around as far
as we've seen or heard. It actually looked you were rather bothered by the only notion that
your child might want to hang out naked socially as an adult. exited the surrounding shrubs,
my dreams were shattered. Most of the people at the playa were old. They were 40-
something, and sometimes even old. Many had weathered skin and white or grey hair. The
vast majority of them were male. There were a few topless girls there, but none went
bottomless. We sat with my friend's friends, all of whom were men, and a Swede named
Gunnar kept making jokes with me about sunscreen lotion.
The folks at Hippie Hollow barbecued lunches. They listened to cassette tapes on boom
boxes, and they lay on blankets drinking wine coolers, water, or Diet Cokes. Some people
played Frisbee, but there was no nude volleyball. There were definitely no gymnastics.
Hippie Hollow wasn't about sex. hundreds of people of all ages and body types, will likely
believe, "I Have seen was not even actually about nudism. The culture of that area was more
about relaxation and attuning to nature. I was much too shallow to comprehend it at time, but
hindsight has a clarity that youthful acuity cannot match. The fact that Gunnar looked to
comprehend, wile I did not, that the naturist culture was about much more than naked bodies
or sexual urges troubles me to this day.
That was nearly 25 years ago. While my youthful sex drive has decreased to some biweekly
formality with my wife of 15 years, Hippie Hollow has grown to a clothing optional park that
encompasses 109 acres of Texas hill country. The fact that among those two things has
prospered while the other has nearly vanished should give inquisitive new visitors something
to ponder.
