Welcome to your Security Pathway booklet.
This is a guide to the Security training and
development opportunities within Savills
Property Management.

Savills training department, Savills Pathways, are committed to providing


training of the highest quality to ensure all staff have the necessary skills
and knowledge to undertake their role to the best of their ability. In turn
this will ensure all Savills managed properties security personnel deliver an
exceptional service in their field of expertise.

Your Security Pathway will deliver a range of online training and face-to-face
courses, many of which will provide a nationally recognised certification.

Your role will determine which Security pathway you can take which is
outlined in this booklet together with course details.

How will you receive your
training at Savills?
The Security Pathway training at Savills Health & Safety platform.
is a combination of in-house training,
face to face courses and continuous
development through workshops and
online training.

Your training will begin with an on-


site induction and mandatory Health
& Safety training which is allocated
according to your role. You will then
be invited to attend a number of
courses which make up your core
training, although everyone’s individual
development pathway will be different
and bespoke to their particular role.

As well as face to face training courses,


if you are a manager you may have

SIA Licence Information
One of the main duties of the SIA is the compulsory licensing of individuals
working in specific sectors of the private security industry. Our remit covers the
United Kingdom.
Does your job include any of the following?

• The guarding of premises against unauthorised access or occupation, against outbreaks


of disorder or against damage. (Referred to later as guarding premises)
• The guarding of property against destruction or damage, against being stolen or against
being otherwise dishonestly taken or obtained. (Referred to later as guarding property)
• The guarding of one or more individuals against assault or against injuries that might
be suffered in consequence of the unlawful conduct of others. (Referred to later as
guarding individuals)
• Other than for the purposes of identifying a trespasser or protecting property, does
your job include using CCTV equipment to monitor the activities of any person in any
place (including in relation to licensed premises or to identify a particular person? This
includes the recording of images.

How do I know when my licence


needs to be renewed?

• You will be unable to carry out your


duties until your licence is renewed,
and this may result in your employment
being placed on unpaid suspension.

Project Argus
Aims & Project ARGUS is a National Counter Terrorism Security Office (NaCTSO)
Objectives initiative, exploring ways to aid you in preventing, handling and recovering
from a terrorist attack.

It achieves this by taking businesses through a realistic terrorist attack


using a multi-media simulation. A series of questions and challenges are
put to delegates, both individually and as a group.

Delegates will work in small syndicate groups with other local business
representatives and develop responses to the attack.

Security Pathway 19
Door Supervisor
Aims & This is a 5 day course where successful delegates will gain a Level 2 Award
Objectives for Working as a Door Supervisor within the Private Security Industry. This
is a qualification for individuals who work or would like to work as a Door
Supervisor.

It is based on the SIA Specification for Learning and Qualifications in Door


Supervision and successful completion of the qualification enables learners
to apply for an SIA licence in Door Supervision or Security Guarding.

Unit 1: Working within the Private Security Industry: This unit is for
individuals who wish to work in the private security industry and who
require an SIA licence to practice. It covers the following areas of knowledge
that are common across different sub-sectors: door supervision, security
guarding, CCTV operations and vehicle immobilisation. In this unit you will
look at the key information required across the security sector, including
how the security sector operates, the key legislation that applies to the
industry, and how to keep yourself and others safe in the workplace. You
will also learn about standards of behaviour, effective communication and
customer care.

Unit 2: This unit is the specialist unit for door supervision for individuals
who wish to work in this role in the private security industry and who
require an SIA licence to practice. It covers the role and objectives of a door
supervisor, relevant legislation, searching, arrest, drugs issues, records and
documentation, emergency procedures, licensing law, keeping vulnerable
people safe, queue management and venue capacity.

Unit 3: Conflict Management within the Private Security Industry: This


unit covers the knowledge of conflict management and candidates will
learn about principles of conflict management, how to recognise, assess
and reduce risk, how to communicate in emotive situations to de-escalate
conflict, how to develop and use problem solving strategies for resolving
conflict and good practice to follow after conflict situations. Learners will
also have the opportunity to participate in the practical scenarios.

Unit 4: This unit covers both knowledge and practical demonstration


of physical intervention skills and includes understanding physical
interventions and the implications of their use, how to reduce the risk
of harm when physical intervention skills are used, be able to use non-
aggressive physical skills to protect yourself and others.

20 Security Pathway
First Aid at Work
Aims & This course is suitable for anyone who might need to provide first aid to

of injuries and illnesses.

The qualification include two mandatory units

• Unit 1: Emergency First Aid in the Workplace


• Unit 2: Recognition and Management of Illness and Injury in the
Workplace

Through completing the two units learners will cover the essentials
of first aid at work, including roles and responsibilities, incident
assessment, casualty management and the administration of first aid.

Successful candidates will be able to administer first aid to a casualty


with:

• Injuries to bones, muscles and joints, including suspected spinal


injuries.
• Chest injuries.
• Eye injuries.
• Sudden poisoning.
• Anaphylactic shock.

Candidates will also be able to Recognise the presence of major illnesses


and provide appropriate first aid (including heart attack, stroke, epilepsy,
asthma, diabetes).

Trauma
Aims & This 1 day course is delivered as additional content during the First Aid at

attending the programme if the following way:

happened after the witnessed incidents within the workplace/home/
leisure
• Reporting/recording methods of incidents that related to trauma
care

• Symptoms of Trauma

First Responder
Aims & This is a 2 day course (Delegates must complete FAAW course and this

Medical Intelligence and Environmental Awareness: Learners


will undertake research into the area of medical intelligence and
environmental awareness supporting first aid in their workplace or
environment. Learners will then complete the tasks contained within
their Assessment Pack.

Assessment: 2 Stages

Practical observation: The practical assessment is completed throughout


the course delivery. This ongoing assessment will involve learners
demonstrating practical first aid skills across a number of areas.

Written questioning: For the theory assessment, learners are required


to answer a series of questions contained within the Assessment Pack to
demonstrate understanding.

CCTV Licences
Aims & The aim of this course is to confirm the ability to meet a ‘licence to

professional or industry body.

This is a 4 day course for those who work or would like to work as a
CCTV Operator (Public Space Surveillance) within the Private Security
Industry.

It is based on the SIA Specification for Learning and Qualifications for


CCTV Control Room Operators (PSS). On successful completion of the
course delegates will gain a Level 2 qualification and will be able to
apply for an SIA licence for CCTV Operators.

Individuals are required by law to have gained this qualification in order


to undertake a specific role within the Private Security Industry.

Delegates must complete all three mandatory units in order to achieve


the qualification.

• Unit 1: Working within the Private Security Industry


• Unit 2: Working as a CCTV Operator within the Private Security
Industry
• Unit 3: Practical Operation of CCTV Equipment within the Private
Security

Manned Guarding
Aims & The aim of this course is to confirm the ability to meet a ‘licence to practice’

This is a 5 day course for those working or would like to work as a Security
Officer within the Private Security Industry.

Guarding. On the successful completion of the course delegates with gain
a Level 2 qualification which will enable them to apply for an SIA licence in
Security Guarding.

Individuals are required by law to have gained this qualification in order to


undertake a specific role within the Private Security Industry.

Delegates must complete all three mandatory units in order to achieve the
qualification.
