WEAPON CONTROL SYSTEM

1. Introduction The purpose of weapon control system is to select, fuse, release, fire
and jettison all the armament stores during range practice/war. It contains its own logic and
timing circuits for control and release of weapons. It is also connected to the Nav Attack
Computer to aid aiming to aid weapon release and to provide weapon aiming symbology

2. System Specification The WCS consists the following main components:-

(a) AMU(Armament Main Unit):- It is mounted in the roof the nose U/C
compartment. It houses five role setting switches and Air R/P single/Twin switches.
These are to be set as per the stores loaded on the different pylons.

(b) WCP (Weapon Control Panel):- It houses the following switches and indicators
for the inflight controls of the WCS.

(i) Selective jettision switches.

(ii) Indicator block.

(iii) BOS(Bomb on Station) lamps.

(iv) Pylons selector switches.

(v) Fuzing selector switch(Marked NT, T, R/P, OFF).

(vi) RP salvo selector switch (Marked R/P, 1, 6, 12, 18).

(vii) Release interval selector switch(Marked 40, 80, 160, 320).

(viii) Gun selector switches.

(ix) Single/Double switch.

(x) Auto/Manual switch.

(xi) Test AMSB-To check the availability of WCS internal power supply.

(c) MASS (Master Armament Safety Switch):- It has two positions Safe and Live.

(d) LAS (Late Armament Switch): - It having two positions Safe and Arm.

(e) Clear Aircraft Jettision Switch: - It is located on the port coaming panel and it is
covered by a yellow and black stripped guard. Complete external stores can be
jettisioned by operating this switch in one go.
(f) Fire Committal Push Switch:- Operation of this switch commences the release
of practice bomb or rocket firing.

(g) Gun Firing Trigger:- The guns continue to fire until the trigger is released or
the ammunition is expended.

(h) Alighting Gear Interlock Microswitch:- It is installed in the nose undercarriage


compartment.

(i) Safety Override Microswitches:- Two microswitches are installed in the port gun
compartment to enable the ground testing of WCS

(j) Gun Power Control Unit (9ά):- It is mounted on the inboard wall, at the rear of
the port gun compartment.

(k) Gun Purging Actuators and Microswitches:- During gun firing, purging air is
admitted to the gun compartment through scoops which are operated by actuators.
The gun stops firing after 0.5sec if scoop remains closed.

(l) Armament Monitor Panel:- It is located at the forward end of the rear
cockpit starboard console and used by the instructor pilot to monitor some of WCS
selection made by the pupil pilot. It has the following indications.

(i) Late Arm Selected Indicator

(ii) Gun selected Indicator

(iii) Auto/Manual selected Indicator

(iv) Indicator Block

(m) Armament Override Switch:- AOS is located at the rear of the port console in
the rear cockpit. It gives the instructor control over the late arm switch in front cockpit.

(n) Dimming Switch:- Located on the central warning panel on the right hand front
console of each cockpit. It controls the brilliance of other cockpit indicators.

(o) Missile Control Panel:- The misile control panel on the right console having
the following controls and indicators:-

(i) Missile Present Indicator

(ii) Preparation switch

(iii) Missile Selector Switch

(iv) Jettision button

3. Limitations. No weapon can be released “Safe” with the help of fire committal push
switch except BAP100.
4. Precaution.

(a) Safe selection in WCS:- Before carrying out any servicing on the aircraft ensure
that all power supplies are set to off and that the WCS controls are set as follows:-

(i) MASS- SAFE (Key hanged at canopy).

(ii) LAS - SAFE.

(iii) Pylon selector switches – OFF.

(iv) Fuzing Selector Switch – OFF.

(v) RP Salvo selector switch – 1

(vi) Release Interval Selector – 320

(vii) Gun Selector Switch - OFF

(viii) Single/Double Switches - S

(ix) Auto/Manual Switch - Auto

(x) Gun CB - Pulled out

(xi) Control Column Safety Flaps – Safe Position

(xii) AMU’s role setting switches – Unmarked position

(xiii) AMU’s R/P Single/Twin switches - Single

5. Important Tester and Tools

(a) Aden gun aircraft test unit (PtNo.121C-96-521-00-0)-SP2205.

(b) Test Probe for checking bomb release pulse-SP –3227.

(c) Tester F-7 for checking aircraft rocket circuit/Rocket. Launcher/Distributor.

the aircraft.

CARRIAGE AND RELEASE SYSTEM (CRS)

1. Introduction All weapon and stores are carried externally on pylons. Pylons and
their components are the part of CRS. CBLS, Rocket Pods and BAP adapters are other
types of CRS attached to the pylons.

2. System Specifications

(a) Outboard pylon:-

(i) Length - 5ft 7 8.55in.

(ii) Weight - 101.5Lbs.

(iii) Type of ERU - 119MkI.

(iv) Cartridge in ERU - 201 Cart.

(v) Max. Load carrying capacity - 2000Lbs.

(vi) Torque load given to main attachment bolt - 143 Lbs/Ft

(vii) Torque load given to anti yaw spigot - 43 Lbs/Ft

(b) Inboard pylon:-

(i) Length - 7ft 4.83in.

(ii) Weight - 198.5Lbs.

(iii) Type of ERU - 120 MK1.

(iv) Cartridge in ERU - 204 Cart.

(v) Max. load carrying capacity - 10,000Lbs

(vi) Torque load given to main attachment bolt - 225/143 Lbs/Ft


with/without OWP

(c) Centre Line Pylon:-

(iii) Torque load given to main attachment bolt is 225 Lbs/Ft.

(iv) Torqque load given to pick up bracket bolt is 21 Lbs/Ft.

3. Precautions.

(a) When ever pylons are not loaded with jettisionable stores/explosives no ERU
cartridge to be fitted. Ensure only unarmed cartridge holder is fitted to ERU.

(b) Whenever weapons/jettisionable stores are fitted on the pylons ERU ground
saafety pins must be fitted with red flag till aircraft is offered to the pilot.

(c) Care should be taken while working near pylons loaded with ERU cartridges.

ERU.

EJECTION SEAT

1. Introduction The ejection seat enables the pilot to exit the aircraft safely in-flight in
the event of an emergency.

2. System Specification.

(a) The Jaguar aircraft is fitted with ejection seat Martin Baker INB-9. It is fully
automatic, rocket assisted, safe ejection at ‘Zero’ height and ‘Zero’ speed.

(b) Weight fully equipped –243lbs.

(c) Ejection velocity –65ft/sec.

(d) INB-9 fitted on Jaguar ‘S’ Version aircraft having rocket pack No5Mk3 having
deflection towards left and breech time delay firing unit (BTDFU) No 14 Mk2 having
delay of 0.3 sec.

(e) INB9-1 fitted in ‘B’Version front cockpit (Pupil pilot) having rocket pack 5Mk3
having deflection towards left and breech time delay firing unit (BTDFU) No. 13 Mk2
having a delay of 0.4sec.

(f) INB9-2 fitted in ‘B’ version rear cockpit (Instructor pilot) having rocket pack 6Mk3
having deflection towards right and breech time delay firing unit (BTDFU) No 14Mk2
having delay 0. 3 sec.

(g) Separation of pilot and seat takes place at 10,000ft in plain areas and 6,000 mtrs
in hill areas.

(h) Ejection seat pitch control unit located at can be set as per weight of the pilot
from 165lbs to 245 lbs.
3. Important Torque Loads
(i) Guillotine gun and rocket initiator -15lbs/ft.
(ii) Seat pan firing unit and union nut- 20lbs/ft.
(iii) Rocket ignitor –40lbs/ft
(iv) Smaller bolt of rocket pack – 35lbs/ft.
(v) Larger bolt of rocket pack –46lbs/ft
4. Precautions.
(a) Before entering the cockpit or before any servicing is carried out on or in the
vicinity of the ejection seat or associated equipments, the emergency escape system
is to be made safe with current authorised procedure ( safety and servicing notes )

(b) Nobody should handle the ejection seat unnecessarily because it contains
explosives and can result in lethal injury.

(c) Fitment and removal of ejection seat should be carried out only in daylight and in
open space under a supervision of supervisor/ technical officer.

ADEN GUN 30 MM

1. Introductiion Two ADEN gun 30 mm are fitted to Jaguar a/c for air to air and air to
ground attack.

2. System Specification

(a) Length of gun overall - 1638.30 mm (64.5 inch).

(b) Weight of gun (less barrel) – 75kg (165lbsd).

(c) Weight of gun (with barrel) – 192lbs.

(d) Motive force – Spring and gas pressure.

(e) Type of ammunition – High explosive, armour, piercing and practice.

(f) Caliber – 30mm.

(g) Rate of fire – 1200 to 1400 rounds/min.

(h) Muzzle velocity – 2600 feet/sec.

(i) Ammunition supply – Disintegrating belt.

(j) Initial loading – By pneumatic cocking unit.

(k) Woking pressure of cocking unit – 1200 lbs/inch2.

(l) Input voltage- 28V DC.

(m) Output voltage to gun- 200V AC 400Hz step down to


80V AC for firing the gun.

(n) Capacity of ammunition box - 150 rounds.


3. Precautions

(a) Before commencing any work on the gun make sure that the gun is unloaded.

(b) If a loaded gun is mounted in an a/c ensure that it is pointing in safe direction.

(c) Gun must be loaded with a pneumatic pressure of minimum 1200lbf/ inch 2. Do
not attempt to cock the gun with high pressure.

(d) Do not attempt to cock the gun with high pressure.

(e) Do not leave the aircraft in closed place with loaded guns.

(a) Aden gun aircraft test unit – To check the a/c gun circuit. Pt No.- 121C-96-521-00-
0.

(b) Aden gun circuit test unit – To check the circuit of the gun after loading. Pt No. G-
120-125 or 78541.
(c) Aden gun electric test unit – To check the serviceability of electric firing unit. Pt
No. GAR-2070.

1. Introduction Role equipment’s are used to meet the requirements of delivering


various stores during training and operational missions. Following are the role equipment’s
used in Jaguar aircraft:-

3. Limitations

(a) CBLS. Maximum weight of store up to 50 lbs and diameter up to 5" only can
be carried on CBLS 2001A

(b) Rocket launcher.


(i) Heat shield is to be changed after 9 sorties. If not fired change after
every sortie even if only one rocket is fired.

(ii) During air crew training tube No. 1, 4, 6 and 17 are not to be used.
(TSI Vol II Sec D).

(iii) Rotation of diaphragm


4. Precautions.
(a) Whenever CBLS is fitted on pylon ensure safety pin with red flag is installed
on pylon ERU till the a/c is offered to pilot.

(b) Whenever CBLS is loaded with practice bombs ensure safety break role plug
located in is removed from serve position and to be connected to stowage position
and vice versa when practice bombs are not loaded.

(c) Whenever rocket launcher is loaded, ensure rocket safety break lever is kept
open and safety pins with red flag is inserted till the a/c is offered to the pilot.
5. Important Testers and Tools.

(a) Tester “no volt” MK 6- For checking stray voltage present in firing breech of
ERU.

(b) Safety ohmmeter MK 7- For checking resistance of carts ERU.

(c) Capacitance bridge CT 492- For checking the capacitance of ERU cable.

(d) Battery Megger Tester BM 8 MK 2- For insulation check.

(e) Flight line and Workshop Tester- F7- For testing aircraft rocket circuit,
launcher on aircraft, distributor and in the workshop.
