Projects
 The construction work on 24x7 Water Supply Scheme for Coimbatore, Tamil Nadu is expected to
commence by end-October 2018. The work will commence at RS Puram on a pilot basis. The project has
been awarded to Suez Project Private Limited for 26 years, with one year study period, four years of
implementation period and 21 years of maintenance period. The project is being implemented on build,
transfer and operate (BTO) basis under public-private partnership (PPP) model. The project is expected to
entail an investment of Rs 5.56 billion. The scope of work involves replacing 1,467 km of pipelines in 60
wards of the city and setting up of 29 new overhead tanks.
 The construction work on Kajauli Water Works Phases V and VI Project in Punjab is expected to be
completed by January 2019. The project implementation has been delayed due to the delay in works of
water intake connection from Bhakra canal. Besides, construction of underground reservoir (UGR), pumping
station, substation, etc at Jandpur village at Mohali, construction of UGR, pumping station at Sector 39-
based waterworks and laying of pipeline from Jandpur to Sector 39-based waterworks has been completed.
The project involves laying of water pipeline from the Bhakra mainline in Kajauli to Sector 39 waterworks
which will supply additional 40 million gallons per day (mgd) additional water to Chandigarh, Mohali,
Panchkula and Chandimandir.
 The Madras High Court has restrained the Chennai Metropolitan Water Supply and Sewerage
Board (CMWSSB) in Tamil Nadu from issuing work order to the successful bidder for construction of
the Nemmeli Water Desalination Plant Extension Project. The decision was taken due to the petition filed
by Suez International seeking to declare it as the only technically qualified bidder in the bids issued by
CMWSSB for construction of the plant. Presently, the price bids have been opened and CMWSSB has
been directed to proceed with the bidding process and declare the result of the tender but not to issue any
work order until the plea is finally disposed. The project involves the development of 150 million litres a day
(mld) seawater desalination plant based on reverse osmosis technology. The project is expected to entail
an investment of Rs 12.59 billion. The KfW Development Bank will contribute to the tune of Rs 7 billion, while
the remaining Rs 5.59 billion will be contributed by the Tamil Nadu government under the Atal Mission for
Rejuvenation and Urban Transformation (AMRUT) Scheme.
 The Municipal Corporation of Greater Mumbai (MCGM) has extended the last date of bid
submission for project management consultancy services for Versova sewerage tunnel. The project is
being implemented under the Mumbai Sewerage Disposal Project Stage II (Priority Works). The last date has
been extended from September 18, 2018 to October 1, 2018. Bids for the same were invited in August 2018.
The period of completion of the work is 40 months. Mumbai Sewerage Disposal Project Stage II (MSDP
Stage II) is an extension of MSDP Stage I which included works such as laying of new sewer lines, new
pumping stations, treatment plants and three marine outfalls. The works of MSDP Stage II are divided into
five phases (each phase spanning over five years) and those in the first two phases are called priority works
(amounting to Rs 120 billion).
 Uttar Pradesh Jal Nigam (UPJN) has extended the last date of bid submission for Panki Tertiary
STP Project in Uttar Pradesh. The last date has been extended from September 22, 2018 to September 28,
2018. Bids for the same were invited in August 2018. The scope of work involves design, construction,
supply, installation, testing, commissioning and trial run of a tertiary STP. It also involves the laying of
pipeline and other allied works for treated wastewater reuse on ultra filtration (UF) and reverse osmosis (RO)
based technology to treat the secondary treated effluent from 210 mld Bingawan STP. The project aims to
produce 40 mld water of desired quality including final effluent pump house, pipeline and other allied works
for 660 megawatt (MW) Panki thermal power station extension in Kanpur on turnkey basis. This would be
followed by 15 years of operation and maintenance (O&M) including two years of defects liability period. The
period of completion of the work is 22 months with six months trial run at an estimated cost of Rs 1.88 billion.

 Jharkhand Urban Infrastructure Development Company Limited (JUIDCO) has invited Rfp bids for
selection of consultant for the Dumka Water Supply Project. The consultant will be responsible for the
preparation of detail project report (DPR) and providing project management consultancy services. The
project involves augmentation and strengthening of water supply system of Dumka under Dumka Nagar
Parishad in Jharkhand. The last date for bid submission is October 20, 2018.
 Rajasthan’s Public Health Engineering Department has invited bids for balance works for the
Bhadakha-Chokhala-Bandra East Drinking Water Supply Project. The scope of work involves providing,
laying, jointing, testing and commissioning of transmission and cluster distribution mains. It also entail the
provision of pumping arrangements, monitoring and control of flow with meters, supervisory control and data
acquisition (SCADA), and allied activities on single responsibility turnkey lump sum basis. The period of
completion of the work is 21 months along with O&M for 10 years. The project is expected to entail an
investment of Rs 1.14 billion. The project is being implemented under Barmer Lift Water Supply Project,
Phase II, Part-A in Barmer district. The last date for bid submission is October 4, 2018.
 The National Mission for Clean Ganga (NMCG) has extended the last date for request for proposal
(RfP) bids for selection of project engineers for development of various sewage treatment plants
(STPs) in West Bengal under the Namami Gange Programme. The bids have been invited for the
development of STPs at Bally, Hawrah and Baranagar along with O&M of all assets for 15 years in Kolkata
Metropolitan Development Authority area at an investment of Rs 5.22 billion, where the late date for bid
submission has been extended from Septemebr 26, 2018 to October 8, 2018. Bids have also been invited for
the development of STPs at Kavi Nazrul area, West Bengal Police Telecom Park at Chandi Ghosh road and
Golf Garden (Sukhapaukur) along with O&M of all assets for 15 years in Kolkata Municipal Corporation area
at an investment of Rs 4,722.8 million. The last date for bid submission for the same has been extended from
September 26, 2018 to October 15, 2018. The STPs are being implemented on a public-private partnership
(PPP) basis through the hybrid annuity mode.
Finance
 The board of directors of Asian Development Bank (ADB) has approved a loan worth Rs 36.36
billion (USD 500 million) for a multitranche financing facility (MFF) for development of water supply,
sewerage, and drainage infrastructure in at least 10 cities in Tamil Nadu. The program involves
development of a climate-resilient sewerage collection, treatment and drainage systems in 10 cities and
installation of India's first solar-powered STP on pilot basis. Further, it will introduce smart water
management systems to reduce non-revenue water and strengthen operational efficiency. ADB’s financing
will be provided in three tranches till March 2022. The first tranche of the program amounting to Rs 12.29
billion (USD 169 million) will target the cities of Chennai, Coimbatore, Rajapalayam, Tiruchirappalli,
Tirunelveli, and Vellore. Moreover, a grant worth Rs 145.45 million (USD 2 million) will be provided by the
Asian Clean Energy Fund, established by the Japan government, for the solar energy pilot project. The
central government, Tamil Nadu government, Chennai Metropolitan Water Supply and Sewerage Board, and
various urban local bodies will provide Rs 55.74 billion (USD 766.4 million) towards the total program cost.
Miscellaneous
 The water storage level of 91 major reservoirs of the country has gone up by two per cent. For the
week ending on September 27, 2018, the water storage available in 91 major reservoirs of the country was
122.514 billion cubic metre (bcm), which is 76 per cent of total storage capacity of these reservoirs. The
corresponding was at 74 per cent for the week ending September 20, 2018. The total storage capacity of
these 91 reservoirs is 161.993 bcm which is about 63 per cent of the total storage capacity (257.812 bcm)
that has been created in the country. Around 40.66 per cent (37 reservoirs) of these 91 have hydropower
benefit with installed capacity of more than 60 MW.
