CHAPTER HI RESEARCH METHODOLOGY This chapter describes the methods of research places of

research, subjects of research, techniques of collecting data 3.1 Method of Research The research
method that is used in this report is the Research and Development method. According to Borg and Gall
(1983: 772), research and development is a process used to develop and validate educational products.
In this report, the writer would improve the way for providing information Pempek Bicycles as traditional
food through documentary video. In addition the way to improve the documentary video should follow
the steps that conform to the process which is usually refrained to the research and development cycle,
which consist of studying research finding petitsent to the product to be developed, developing the
product based on findings, fields testing it in the settings where it will be used eventually, and revising
nit to correct the deficiencies found in the field testing stage. it is indicated that the product costs its
behavioralally defined objectives. Borg ang Gall (1983: 772), the purpose of the steps for doing sand
development research. They are follows: (1) research and information collecting; (2) planning; (3)
preliminary form of product; (4) preliminary field testing; (5) main product revision; (6) playing field
testing; (7) operational product revision; (8) operational field testing; (9) final product revision and;
(10) dissemination and distribution. Because of the long process of research and development from
Borg and Gall, the witer used research and development modification develop by Sukmadinata (205;
p1.64) which states that R&D is a process or steps to develop a new product or improve existing products
that can be justified. Moreover, the steps are similar to the steps of Borg and Gall before, but this
modification has simple steps. At least, there are three steps of research and development
modification.The steps of research and development are developed by Sukmadinata consist of 3 steps

Preliminary Study Preliminary study is conducted to collect data the early information about early
information about the documentary video. First literature study, the writer reads some articles,
journals, and books related to a documentary video, design, and Pempek Bicycles. Second, the survey
field is carried out to collect all the data related to planning. After collecting the data, the writer makes a
list of plans such as preparing the steps needed for this research (the concept, the animator, the story,
etc.). Data collection can be through an interview. In this case, after collecting the data from the
literature review and the field survey, the writer starts to make a draft model. The data from the
literature review and field survey are read and analyzed in order to make the draft of a documentary
video. 2. development of the product The second step was the development model, which consist of 2
steps, they were limited trial and wider trial. Limited trial was the trial was done by the writer to get the
data on a small scale. While the writer was the opposite from the limited trial. Limited trial could be
used by the writer made designing the documebtary video of explanation in capter 1, the writer made
designing the documentary video of the Pempck Bike. In limited trials, the writer gave the design and
the content of the video to people around the writer to get some suggestions and advice from a
community that is related to the design community. After the writer has gotten some suggestions and
shares, the writer will analyze the design. 3. Examination That step was the last step in developing a
product. It consist of pre-testing. last revision, and post-test. This step is did to try and promote the
product to the society and tourist. In this case, the writer does not use this final step because of the
limitation of time and cost. The writer modified the step again. It stopped until the wider trial and

places of research This research is specifically in the place to get the valid sources. The place of research
was needed to know the area for collecting data and supporting the developing the model. Sumaatja
(1998) states that location can be explained and given the information in detail about the things. The
place of research is Lumban Tirta swimming pool in that area which is found some of Seeler Pempek
Bicycles. The writer did the observation and interview seleeer pempek bicycles, and also One of the

the information about the object.
