Answer all four questions
1 a. Mr. Britto deposits a certain sum of money each month in a
Recurring deposit Account of a bank. If the rate of interest is of
8% per annum and Mr.Britto gets Rs. 8,088 from the bank after 3
years, find the value of his monthly installment. (3)
b.Which is the better investment:
16% Rs 100 shares at 80 or 20% Rs 100 shares at 120? (3)
c.Given : A ={x: -8 < 5x + 2 ≤ 17, x Ɛ I}
B= {x : -2 ≤ 7 + 3x < 17, x Ɛ R }
Where R ={real numbers} and I={integers},
Represent A and B on two different number lines. Write down
the elements of AᴒB. (4)

2 a. Given that 2 is a root of the equation 3x2 –p(x + 1) = 0 and


that the equation px2 – qx + 9 =0 has equal roots, find the
values of p and q. (3)
b. Out of three consecutive positive integers, the middle
number is P. If three times the square of the largest is greater
than the sum of the squares of the other two numbers by 67;
calculate the value of P. (3)
c. In a regiment , the ratio of number of officers to the number
of soldiers was 3: 31 before a battle. In the battle 6 officers and
22 soldiers were killed. The ratio between the number of
officers and the number of soldiers now is 1:13.Find the
number of officers and soldiers in the regiment before the
battle. (4)

3 a. Find the values of m and n so that x-1 and x + 2 both are


factors of
X3 + (3m + 1) x2 +nx – 18. (3)

c. Which term of the series :
21, 18, 15 ,……… is -81 ?
Can any term of this series be zero ?
If yes, find the number of term. (4)
4 a. If the 4th and 9th terms of a G.P. are 54 and 13122
respectively, find the G.P. Also, find its general term. (3)
b.The points P (4,1) and Q (-2, 4) are reflected in line y=3. Find
the co-ordinates of P’, the image of P and Q’, the image of Q. (3)
c. Calculate the ratio in which the line joining A (6,5) and
B(4, -3) is divided by the line y=2. (4)

Answer any four questions
5 a. Show that the points P (a, b + c), Q (b, c + a) and
R (c, a + b) are collinear. (3)
b. i) The ratio between the corresponding sides of two similar
triangles is 2 is to 5. Find the ratio between the areas of these
triangles.
ii) Areas of two similar triangles are 98 sq.cm and 128 sq.cm.
Find the ratio between the lengths of their corresponding
sides. (3)
c. Construct the triangle ABC in which AB=6 cm, BC=7 cm and
CA=6.5cm.Find a point P equidistant from B and C; and also
equidistant from AB and BC. (4)

6 a.In the given circle with diameter AB, find the value of x.

b.In the given figure, MN is the common chord of two
intersecting circles and AB is their common tangent.
Prove that the line NM produced bisects AB at P. (3)
c. Draw a circle of radius 3 cm. Mark a point P at a distance of 5
cm from the centre of the circle drawn. Draw two tangents PA
and PB to the given circle and measure the length of each
tangent. (4)
7 a. Find the volume of the largest cylinder formed when a
rectangular piece of paper 22 cm by 15 cm is rolled along its
longer side. (3)
b. A triangle ABC is right angled at B; find the value of
sec A.𝑐𝑜𝑠𝑒𝑐 𝐶−tan 𝐴.cot 𝐶

c. The angle of elevation of the top of an unfinished tower at a
point distance 80 m from its base is 300. How much higher
must the tower be raised so that its angle of elevation at the
same point may be 600. (4)
8 a. If 69.5 is the mean of 72, 70, x, 62, 50, 71, 90, 64, 58 and 82
; find the value of x. (3)
b. Find the lower quartile, upper quartile and inter quartile
range for the data : 9, 11, 15, 19, 17, 13, 7. (3)
c. in a single throw of a die, find the probability of getting:
i. 7 ii. A number less than 7. (4)
9 a. Find the equation of the line passing through (2,-1) and
parallel to the line 2x – y = 4. (3)
b. The volume of a sphere is 38808 cm3; find its diameter and the
surface area. (3)
c. In a school, students stand in rows. If 30 students stand in the
first row, twenty- seven in the second row, twenty four in the
third row and six in the last row; find how many rows are there
and what is the total number of students? (4)
10 a. On a graph paper, draw the lines x=3 and y=-5.Now on the
same graph paper, draw the locus of the point which is
equidistant from the given lines. (3)
b. A sum of Rs 8,000 is invested at 10% simple interest per
annum. Calculate the interest at the end of each year.
Does the sequence of interests at the end of consecutive years
form an A.P ? If yes, write its first term and the common
difference. (3)
c. A kite is attached to a string. Find the length of the string, when
the height of the kite is 60 m and the string makes an angle 300
with the ground. (4)
11. a. For a triangle ABC show that:

the marked price, the rate of tax being 18 %. Calculate the tax
Dinesh has to pay for this purchase. Also, find the total amount to
