GEMSTONES/ PRECAUTIONS/ RIGHT OR

LEFT HAND

Please note that ‘Gems’ refers to ‘Ratna’

and every stone is not gemstone.
Classics define “Ratna” according to
following basis:

1. Gems taken out or mined on

inauspicious Muhurta have ill affects
despite of being good in luster and appearance.

In “Ratnajati” chapter of Ṃanimala, Sloka six reads

“Stones originating on inauspicious days and at unlucky moments are not only
void of any beneficial quality but are positively harmful”(Ratnajati Adhyaya, Sloka
6, Manimala)

(Most of gems do not fulfill this criteria. This is because as a Gemologist and gem
buyer, I have come across several gemstones and they are mined at commercial
level and not on the basis of some auspicious Muhurta )..

2.. One who is wearing a gemstone should not visit a graveyard while the stone is
on the body itself. Gemstones loose their pranic stage as soon as the wearer enters
a graveyard. The stone should be left in the house or at home in such cases.

3. Dead bodies should not be touched while the person is wearing a gemstone.

4. It is better to leave the gemstones in Pooja ghar or temple while going to bed.

5. Gemstones are always worn in right hand. It is very wrong assumption that
gemstones are worn in left hand. A person wearing a gemstone in left hand suffers
from heavy devik doshas and bears the wrath of dieties.

6. Gemstones are always worn when planets are good but weak. They are not
worn for Bādhā Grahas, malefic planets and maraka planets.
