for
Learning
(UDL):
For
this
lesson,
the
students
will
be
using
a
PowerPoint
in
order
to
learn
new
material
about
the
World’s
Oceans.
This
tool
enhances
the
students’
learning
because
through
the
PowerPoint
they
are
able
to
visualize
where
the
Oceans
are
located.
The
students
can
also
listen
to
the
pre-‐ recorded
PowerPoint
at
home
if
they
miss
class
in
order
to
better
follow
along
with
the
teacher.
This
leads
to
more
engagement
and
active
learning.
Lesson
idea
implementation:
The
teacher
will
begin
the
lesson
by
first
asking
the
students
to
do
a
think-‐pair-‐ share.
The
students
will
have
individual
time
to
think
about
what
they
know
about
the
Ocean.
The
students
will
then
discuss
their
knowledge
about
oceans
with
a
partner.
After
this
the
students
will
discuss
their
thoughts
and
ideas
as
a
whole
class.
The
teacher
will
then
begin
the
PowerPoint
and
instruct
students
to
write
down
at
least
two
characteristics
that
they
learn
about
the
ocean
in
their
notebooks.
Students
will
learn
the
different
characteristics
of
the
World’s
oceans
as
well
as
the
territories
that
they
are
in.
At
the
completion
of
the
PowerPoint,
the
teacher
will
put
students
into
groups
of
4-‐5.
Each
group
will
be
given
a
different
ocean
to
further
research
and
learn
about.
The
students
will
work
as
a
group
to
create
an
8
page
PowerPoint
presentation
about
the
specific
ocean
they
are
assigned.
The
students
will
be
given
the
rest
of
the
class
period
as
well
as
the
following
day
to
work
on
the
presentation.
The
students
will
present
their
PowerPoints
to
the
class
and
will
be
assessed
based
off
of
a
student
friendly
rubric.
The
students
will
be
assessed
based
off
of
the
group
work,
the
presentation
of
the
PowerPoint,
and
the
information
within
the
PowerPoint.
The
students
will
be
getting
practice
working
with
PowerPoint
as
well
as
how
to
collect
data
and
research
on
a
specific
topic.
After
the
students
have
presented
they
will
complete
a
journal
write
in
the
form
of
an
exit
ticket
where
they
will
tell
the
teacher
what
they
did
and
did
not
like
about
the
project.
This
allows
the
teacher
to
receive
feedback
about
the
use
of
PowerPoint
as
well
as
the
project
overall.
The
teacher
will
give
the
students
feedback
through
the
rubric
as
well
as
respond
to
their
journal
writes.
Reflective
Practice:
Student
learning
will
be
impacted
by
the
use
of
the
PowerPoint.
Student
engagement

be
higher
as
well
as
the
active
learning.
This
lesson
can
be
considered
an
introductory
science
lesson
to
a
unit
on
the
Oceans.
The
teacher
could
further
this
activity
by
extending
it
throughout
the
week.
Exploring
not
only
the
characteristics
and
territories
of
the
oceans,
but
by
also
having
the
students
studying
what
animals
live
in
certain
areas
of
the
oceans,
what
scientists
learn
about
the
oceans,
and
how
they
can
make
an
impact
to
keep
the
oceans
healthy.
There
are
many
different
ways
that
the
teacher
can
take
the
course
of
the
lesson,
including
teaching
the
students
about
how
recycling
can
help
keep
the
oceans
clean.
The
teacher
could
further
the
students’
learning
by
having
a
professional
come
in
and
speak
about
recycling
and
keeping
the
oceans
clean.
The
students
could
take
a
virtual
reality
trip
to
an
aquarium
or
go
on
a
field
trip
to
visit
one
to
learn
more
about
sea
life
and
the
oceans.
