Abstract

The study was designed to assess the academic dishonesty and its significance in academic
performance among senior high school students of Nova Schola Tanauan whereas will also
become the basis for revising the school’s policy on students’ integrity. The study was conducted
to all different strands of Nova Schola Senior High School to assess and to know the proportion,
perception, reasons and recommendations of the senior high school students when it comes to
academic dishonesty; and it was correlated to the respondents’ academic performance. The end
view is to come up with the implication that would help not just the senior high school students
but also for the school administration to craft, review, assess and implement innovative policies
on academic dishonesty; and organize the equivalent sanctions on the defilements or acts of
academic dishonesty.

The descriptive correlational research was utilized and the survey questionnaire that based
from different authors in relations with this study served as the instrument for collecting data. The
sampling technique was a stratified random sampling. Four hundred and twenty-one (421) grade
11 and grade 12 senior high school were chosen randomly in all different strands. Data were
analyzed and interpreted using the weighted mean, Pearson-r and T-test.

The result of the study revealed that there is a high percentage of 55% respondents admitted
to commit an academic dishonesty on at least one circumstances in accordance with all the
academic dishonesty activity surveyed. Thus results of our study are rather distressing in that they
suggest that academic dishonesty is indeed prevalent. Almost all respondents reported that they
committed one form of academic dishonesty at least once. Thus concluding that plagiarism were
the most likely manifested form of academic dishonesty among the Senior high school students.

Nonetheless, not all forms of the academic dishonesty such as bribery, cheating, deception,
fabrication and plagiarism as to be relatively non- serious academic dishonesty. Further, rendering
to the main objective of the study wherein to identify the relationship between academic dishonesty
and students’ attitude toward grade. It can be noted that there is a strong significant relationship
between academic dishonesty and academic performances of Senior high school students of Nova
Schola Tanauan.
Likewise, in the light of the obtained findings the following recommendations are hereby
endorse; the researchers recommend the school administration to craft, review, assess and
implement innovative policies on academic dishonesty; and organize the equivalent actions on the
defilements or acts of academic dishonesty. These policies should decipher into guiding principle
that involves teachers to assimilate in their corresponding classes (regardless of the subjects taught)
the significance of discerning academic integrity as an academic responsibility.

On the whole, they should promote equitable practices of comprehending, lecturing the
detrimental practices of academic dishonesty that diverge so much from the standards of academic
integrity in terms of orientation and seminar to be familiarize with the rules and regulations
concerning academic dishonesty and behavior requiring disciplinary action at the educational
institution. Likewise, Propagation of written reminders about campus’ standpoint against academic
dishonesty especially in hand books as well as in the classrooms.
