BS ISO 45001:2018 BRITISH STANDARD

National foreword
This British Standard is the UK implementation of ISO 45001:2018. It
supersedes BS OHSAS 18001:2007, which is withdrawn.
The UK participation in its preparation was entrusted to Technical
Committee HS/1, Occupational health and safety management.
This document provides a framework to enable businesses to implement
effective arrangements for managing occupational health and safety
(OH&S). The requirements should be met in a way that is proportionate
to the hazards identified and the OH&S risks to be managed.
For smaller businesses or those with less complex and/or less hazardous
operations, managers and workers may in many cases already have a
good sense of their main workplace risks; this standard simply provides
a framework for managing them in a more structured way.
Organizations should create documented information to meet the
requirements of this standard to the extent necessary for the effective
establishment, implementation and maintenance of the OH&S
management system and to comply with relevant legislation. Under UK
legislation, organizations cannot delegate legal responsibility for the
day-to-day control of OH&S risk even if third-party expertise, advice or
services are used.
A list of organizations represented on this committee can be obtained on
request to its secretary.
This publication does not purport to include all the necessary provisions
of a contract. Users are responsible for its correct application.
