Mathematical Analysis, roughly speaking is the “in depth” study of Calculus. Some might say
that it is same with “Pre-Calculus”. It is all about solving and graphing all different types of
equations. Some of these equations might look familiar to us, because we have already seen
throughout Algebra 1, Geometry and Algebra 2. Some of the equations might be completely
stranger to us. But because of Basic Mathematical Analysis, it will succor us unto digging deeper
into the concepts you’re familiar with and also expose us to things that we do not know.
Simply, Analysis is an advanced course or stage for the Calculus. Analysis is designed so
we can graph and solve all different types of equations and functions, know how to identify them
visually, know how to solve and analyze them. In simpler words, Analysis helps us to review the
basic concepts that which may consequently crucially needed for taking up calculus.
According to the book of Jiri Lebl, entitled “Basic Analysis: Introduction to Real
Analysis”, he called Analysis as “Advanced Calculus”. It’s main branches includes; Real
Analysis or the theory of functions of a real variable, is the branch of mathematical analysis
dealing with real numbers, Complex Analysis, the theory of functions of a complex variable
mathematical analysis the core of which is formed by the study of vector spaces endowed with
some kind of limit-related structure, Differential Equations, Measure Theory, and Numerical
Analysis.
There’s a blurred line separating Analysis and Calculus, because we as students are often
having misconceptions about the aforementioned topics. According to the book, Calculus refers
studying calculus, you normally start with single variable Calculus, then move toward
multivariable calculus. The next part is Analysis, which is the study of the theory
behind Calculus.
The book of Jiri Lebl, is a great book that will surely propagate knowledge about the
wonders of the World of Math. It will aid and nourish us towards understanding the Calculus.
His book is the introductory analysis course that will teach us the basic concepts of Mathematical
Analysis. But still, Basic Analysis is not basic for us since we have hard time comprehending
mathematical informations. In addition, the book does not directly teach the most efficient way
of solving problems, but rather complicating the more complicated mathematics. The published
book is also a little outdated since it was published on the beginning of the century, and may not
be able to address recent mathematical dilemmas. Indeed reading book might help us in
understanding Mathematics.
