TMCTP 2019

About TMCTP:

The Technion Multi-Cultural Team Project is an online environment that is designed for
learning purposes. It is an opportunity to experience working in multi-cultural teams on a joint
project with graduate students from other countries. This project is a great opportunity to
experience, and learn about cross-cultural management and virtual teamwork, as well as
improve your skills of interacting with and managing people in a global business environment.

Technion Multi-Cultural Team Project (TMCTP-19) is a joint initiative of Chandragupt


Institute of Management Patna (CIMP), India and Israel Institute of Technology-Technion,
Israel along with other Universities/Institute(s)/College(s) around the world such as Grenoble
Business School, France; Michigan State University, USA; Georgia State University, USA.
Within India only one Institute has participated in the project i.e. CIMP. Total 55 teams
consisting 207 students from 7 universities from 4 countries: USA, India, France and Israel
have participated in the project in the year 2019, where each team consists of 3/4/5. This means,
no member was from the same nation.

It provides a virtual platform for a multi-cultural team to propose a new social venture in a
country where none of the team members spent substantial time.

The project focuses mainly on the cultural aspects related to running the venture in a specific
location and not on economic factors.

Objective(s) of the Project:

To experience work in a virtual multicultural team and to improve skills of interacting with
people and manage people at global business environment.
Outcome(s) of the Project:

Different teams came with different social ventures for different countries. The team consisted
students of different countries like India, France, Georgia, Israel etc. All were very active in
the group for the project. The teams studied the cultural differences that exists in the world.
First they studied cultural differences of each other team members country, then about the host
country where they are proposing their social venture. With the help of the project, all members
came to know about how culture and working environment of any country plays important role
in the ventures in the particular country.
Hence it gave us an opportunity at a very early stage as future managers to develop plan on
Social Ventures. The project also gave us experience to deal with peoples across the nations,
analysing their behaviour, perception, flexibility and many more.

Challenge(s) faced during the Project:

 Time difference was one of the major challenges we faced as a team. Though team
members were undoubtedly understanding and didn’t complained.
 Managing and deciding time was a great challenge.
 While continuing with the project, I was having my exams due to which I was not
working on the project.
 Finding interviewer was also a challenge.
 Some members were not active for some time without informing due to which
completion of the assignment took time.

Process to overcome challenge(s):

 Time difference was one of the major challenges we faced as a team. Though team
members were undoubtedly understanding and didn’t complained.
 Coordination among team members was good due to which team worked properly
despite of problems and challenges faced.
 Though some members were inactive for a while due to some unavoidable work but
other members continued working so that when they will join work will be completed
on time.
 There was very friendly work environment throughout our project which makes our
working experience very enjoyable.
 Team members were cooperative and warm by nature which helped to be comfortable
while.
 We used to talk over voice call and chats to discuss every aspect of work thoroughly.
 Finding interviewer was a challenge but all team members

Learnings being part of TMCTP:

 I was able to understand the working styles of people from different countries and what
are the similarities and dissimilarities among us.
 It helped me to increase my knowledge and work well in the team.
 It boost my confidence level while discussing about the social venture when my team
mates liked my ideas and my work.

Suggestions/Recommendations for coordinators of Technion, if any:

TMCTP can become more enjoyable and exciting by adding some online games to their
schedules which all the groups need to play with one another and learn more different
aspects through it.
