4 Specific Gravity/ Particle Density

The determination of the specific gravity of soil particles were carried out in accordance wtith BS1377:
Part2: Clause 8 (8.2-8.3): 1990 (Gas jar method-gravel size particle and Pyknometer method-clay silt
sand size particle). The results of specific gravity are presented in Table 8. The detailed test results are
enclosed in Appendix C.

5.2 Atterberg Limits

The atterberg limit tests were carried out in accordance with standard procedures of BS 1377 – Part
2-Clause 4.3 & 5.3: 1990. The results of Liquid Limit (5), Plastic Limit (5), Plasticity Index (5) and
respective soil in accordance to BS 5930 are presented in Table 3 and Figure 3 (Plasticity Chart)

5.3 Grain Size Analysis

The wet sieving plus hydrometer method was used in accordance with BS 1377:part2: clause 9.2, 9.4
& 9.5:1990. The grain size distribution semi log curves are presented in Appendix C with relevant
characteristics. The summurised grain size analysis test results are shown in Table 7.
