IMPROVING PROSPERITY OF AGRICULTURE COMMUNITIES

IN CENTRAL JAVA

Written by: Eka Vebriana (B2A018035)

Rice is one of staple food in central java, its production has a significant increase from
year to year. Because rice is the main carbohydrate and calorie source for people. Central Java
is one of the provinces in Indonesia which has the agricultural sector as its main sector. An
important issue in agricultural environmental modeling is that all the basic units (water,
soil and chemicals) have a spatial distribution, since this distribution affects the processes
and dynamics of their interaction considerably, geographic information system (GIS) is
emerging as an important tool in modeling.

Estimation result shows that rice production and harvest area have significant effect
on rice productivity in Central Java. Modeling within a GIS offers a mechanism to integrate
many scales of data developed for agricultural research. Thus a need exists for an
integrated, GIS modeling system to allow agricultural producer as well as policy makers
to know the impact of differences between input and output spatially from one
place/region to another from better management, productivity and profitability viewpoint.

Based on the result of observation data to the Central Statistics Agency (BPS) in
Central Java for the period of 2015, it was found that rice production and harvest area did not
significantly influence the rice productivity in the certain areas. Rice production in this area
has a surplus and has the potential to support regional food security. According to the Central
Statistics Agency (BPS), Central Java is nationally the third largest rice producer after West
Java and East Java, with the production reaching 10.34 million tons of dry milled rice in 2013.
However, the average production of rice in the last five years has stagnated. This is influenced
by various factors which focus on the process of rice production by farmers. I realize the
important role of government as an economic regulator is able to have a sufficient impact on
agriculture productivity. Assistance such as cultivation technologies, fertilizers, and a good
irrigation system. Increasing the quality and quantity of agricultural products has also
an influence on prosperity of society which supports the economy regulation. It has a
direct impact on increasing regional income.
Thus, individuals have different gain. The model rice production relationship
between district level gains and harvest area changes, that is similar in nature to the
corresponding one in the data. Finally, I note that while the drops in harvest area have
been large, Central Java province started from a very high base, and its level still
remains high. The implication of the analysis here is the further investments in
infrastructure expansion, can have real productivity benefits for the agriculture.
