Reading/Language Arts
In Language Arts our learning targets this week have included:
*review of year learning so far!
*Long vowel sound made by a_e, like cake, cane, fare
* the soft “c” and “g” sound like cent, and giant
*Sight word review
*blending sounds
* SPELLING is going well! We continue to practice in some way every day!
*recognizing proper nouns as names of special people, places, things or
animals!
*monitor & clarify– This means we stop throughout the story and make sure
we know and understand what’s happening and who is involved.
In writing this week we worked on short compositions. We wrote about a
time we worked together in our school community (our new reading theme)
to do something. We are learning about paragraph construction. We need a
good beginning sentence that introduces our idea! Then we need some
details (3 or more), and then we need and ending that often restates the main
idea of the paragraph. Many students struggle with the beginning sentence!
We keep working at it though! THEIR spelling is getting so much better!
Math
In Math this week we continued UNIT
4 on Place Value Concepts! Our
Social Studies learning targets have included:
This week we created our
shopping list of needs and *recognizing teen numbers as a ten and
wants for each member of our extra ones
adopted family! We had fun *representing teen numbers with sticks
shopping and buying for them! and circles
We wrapped on Thursday *comparing teen numbers
afternoon! A big THANK YOU *adding single digit numbers that equal
to all the parents who helped more than 10, and seeing it as a ten and
chaperone the trip. We some ones
couldn’t have done it without *learning doubles facts, doubles facts
you! +/- 1, and doubles facts +/-2
