Self confidence

Is "confidence in oneself," related to 'self-assurance' and 'self-belief,' in terms of being a

source of inner strength and conviction, especially giving oneself the confidence to
overcome obstacles and achieve goals.

The key is self belief that you can learn new things and have new experiances and in
learning those new things you may or may not take a few knocks along the way but come
out wiser and more experianced. Self confidence is of absolute importance for growth in
life.

Where people lack self confidence is that they believe somehow it will be a fatal or
permament failure or simply they just get scared anxious or afraid which to many situations
are perfectly normal reactions for most people to have. Of course the is going to be a bell
curve response

*Draw a bell curve* normal distribution

Here you find most of the people, and here at either end you find the people who can't do
anything new even if they want to and may or may not be gripped by anxiety, which used
to happen to me for certain things (and very occasionally even I still go urrr hurr urr before
i snap out of it, I would like to say it does not matter who you are occasionally everyone
gets blindsided by there emotions on this)

and those who are very self confident... at the other end.

Now most people have specific things or areas they want more confidence in:

The way I see it there are two types of confidence:

1. Confidence from competance:

This is where you have performed the task/activity/experianced something similar

before and know what your success rate or what to expect. Basically that you are
going to come out okay no matter the outcome, and live to play again to carry on in
the game of life. It may be that you did it a long time ago but you generally know
how something might go.

Now this is quite subjective as is related to everyone elses knowledge but could also relate
to the results you want to obtain. And if you are getting the results you want regardless of
your competance, then just stay at the top of mount stupid as its somehow totally working
for you (and not so stupid), however I have found it good to know roughtly where your at,
as you won't know when you need help otherwise.

2. Confidence in living in the unknown.

We live in the unknown but we like to think if we do this or that life will go this way or that,
and we make up all sort of scenarios in our head that are simply not true, we don't know
whats going to happen but we imagine we do we plan, create scenarios. I do it, you do it
everyone does it! Appart from small children as they really don't have a reference alot of
the time for what it will be like. Now the is a kind of confidence that is like this, a
confidence that just says I am going to show up and do stuff and see what happens like a
small child. You find they usually have an aliveness and fearless confidence about them
because they live in the now. As we get older we tend to not actually live in the present
movement very much, this is why many people like exercise, dancing and physical activity
becauses it forces us back into the present, it is also why people like drink and drugs
because it quietens down there thinking and brings them back to the present.

To understand how to live in the unknown confidently we have to understand how our
human experiance is created, a firm grounding in this is essential for having confidence
and not getting caught up in anxiety I have found, now thats not to say you won't
occasionally have anxious thinking, everyone does but I means you won't get caught up in
it.
