STEP Standard 7 – Reflecting on Instruction to Improve Student Progress

Improved Practice Based on the Unit of Study

Based on the experience of developing and delivering your instructional unit, list three short-
term goals to improve specific areas of your teaching practice based on the unit of instruction
and describe your plan to reach each short-term goal.

Plan to Reach the Goal (i.e., professional

Short-Term Goal development, research on the Internet,
observation of a veteran teacher, etc.)
1. To incorporate more technology into From observing another teacher, I noticed
my lesson. that she had a device that was for students
that had a hearing issue. However, she used
the device to project her voice in the whole
classroom to gather everyone’s attention. To
meet this goal, I can use this device in my
future classroom, I believe that I will be able
to not only obtain their attention, but they
will be able to listen to instructions clearly.
Not only this but also using a mini table
projector to display images, works and other
items clearly for all students to see, follow
along and imitate.

2. Modify lessons to better meet
student’s needs.
For this goal my plan to meet it is by looking
at all my student’s needs, learning styles and
IEP’s. Trying to implement more hands-on
activities, more visual aids, and
incorporating them in my lessons when
having them coming up and doing the work
with me to better guide and show the
students on how its done. I feel that in
making these changes to my lesson plan will
have a huge advantage with my students
learning.
3. To have material ready ahead of time
for lessons.
To meet this goal, I have spoken to other
teachers regarding how they are ready for
each of their lessons and not being behind
with any paperwork. Each educator advised
me to either come to work early or to stay
behind and leave late. Either way I would
have extra time on my hands to prepare my
class’s work, lessons, papers, copies and any
other minor thing that may interrupt my day.
Doing this will not only allow me to be ready
ahead of time for each of my lessons but also
will allow me to be more organized and
prepared for the upcoming days.
