WRITTEN INTERVIEWS

Beard, Alison. “Sally Ride.” Harvard Business Review, 7 Sept. 2017,

hbr.org/2012/09/sally-ride.

This interview between Sally Ride and Alison Beard allowed me to get a better perspective of
Rides’ point of view. The quote I used from this interview was "I never went into physics or the
astronaut corps to become a role model. But after my first flight, it became clear to me that I was
one. And I began to understand the importance of that to people. Young girls need to see role
models in whatever careers they may choose, just so they can picture themselves doing those
jobs someday. You can’t be what you can’t see."

Dickey, Beth. “WOMAN IN THE NEWS -- Eileen Marie Collins; Woman's Work: Space
Commander.” The New York Times, The New York Times, 24 July 1999,
www.nytimes.com/1999/07/24/us/woman-in-the-news-eileen-marie-collins-womans-work-
space-commander.html.

This article provided me with the quote ''Eventually, having women in these roles won't be news
anymore,'' she said. ''It will be accepted and expected. I'm setting a precedent for women to
follow. With that in mind, I want to do the best job that I can.'', and also gave me information
about Eileen Collins personal life.
