GPS, AN INDEITABLE MEASURING INSTRUMENT IN TOPOGRAPHY
For starters you can say that the GPS satellite navigation system, is of great importance for
the location or positioning of what is required to measure, however the quality of the signal
is of great importance to achieve to perfect your measurements, the signal is essential in
this area which needs a processor of optimal quality to make the work more effective
without omitting the smallest detail, for this it is necessary that the availability of the
modulated frequencies of the satellites that broadcast the microwave radio signals are
generated. It is also true that the availability of carrier frequencies helps to accurately
perform the measurement by correcting errors.
About the types of GPS receivers in the year 1980 there was only one available for
commercialization which had a very high cost, while currently there are more than 500
GPS receivers available on the market, the existing GPS signal structure was designed 1970
however it is currently believed that it is necessary to modernize its system
since the requirements in the future will be greater, for which it is intended to improve the
accuracy of positioning, increase the signal, have a comprehensive system, the editing of a
code two military codes, which will be awarded to existing ones (12 llR block satellites)
who have been operating since 2003.
With regard to the weather this is of great importance in terms of GPS positioning since
the signal is controlled by exact timing devices, as well as the measurement of the distance
from the receiver to the satellite is based on both the receiver as in satellite clocks,
worldwide we find different time systems, one of them is Coordinated Universal Time
(UTC) which is based on International Atomic Time (TAI), this is used in topography and
navigation, in addition we find the GPS time used mostly by GPS users, through which
time can be synchronized.
As for the pseudo-distance measurement it can be said that this is a measure between the
GPS receiver and the satellite, where a GPS receiver needs an antenna through which it
receives the satellite signal to be handled by the receiver, which can be of different
reception capabilities; these receivers can be single frequency code, smoothed code
receiver, single frequency and dual frequency, varying its frequency according to the type
of receiver; GPS receivers vary depending on the number of channels between 9 and 12
channels and the greater the number of channels the better their quality, where each channel
receives signal from a different satellite.
On the other hand when buying a GPS receiver, it is necessary to take into account the
cost, its ease of use, size, power consumption, its storage capacity, interface capabilities and
mitigation of multiple routes. Finally, it can be said that the most sophisticated and
expensive receivers are the dual frequency ones, as they are of better quality.
