Math 1: Exponential and Linear Functions/End Behavior

Performance Assessment
Become the Expert on Graphs
Grade 8/9 Commented [1]: I really like this performance
Learning Standard: Interpret the parameters 𝑎 and 𝑎 in a linear function 𝑎(𝑎) = 𝑎𝑎 + 𝑎 or an assessment! Great job!
exponential function 𝑎(𝑎) = 𝑎𝑎𝑎 in terms of context.
Learning Outcome: I can interpret the information given in a linear function 𝑎(𝑎) = 𝑎𝑎 + 𝑎 as well as
an exponential function 𝑎(𝑎) = 𝑎𝑎𝑎 .

For this project, create a graph that expresses linear and exponential functions. This can be done various
ways including through a website, poster, Google Slide, Google Drawing, etc. If you are unsure about
your ideal method of presentation contact me and we can talk about it. This project will then be presented
to the class by you to help ensure your peers understand various graphs and functions. Remember, you are
the expert on your graph and what you tell your classmates has to help them understand the elements of
your graph. Be sure to make it colorful and appealing!

I will be looking for the following items in your presentation and graph:

● at least one linear function and one exponential function

● One word problem/ story describing each function
● For the linear function you need to label
○ The slope
○ The y- intercept
○ The equation
○ A graph with a labeled x- and y- axis
○ The end behavior
● For the exponential function
○ The y- intercept
○ The equation
○ The end behavior
○ A graph with a labeled x- and y- axis
● Don’t forget to be creative and have fun with this!

Modifications/Accommodations:
1. Students are given a sheet with definitions of what the different types of functions are and what is
encompassed in making a function (slope, y-intercept, etc.) to reference.
2. Students only have to choose one type of function to model and label, instead of 2.
3. Allow students to work in pairs to complete the project.
4. Go over the project individually with the student to ensure they understand the project.

Scaffolds:
1. Provide a variety of functions that a student can choose from to model their presentation off of.
2. Given time to work with a teacher to complete the project. Commented [2]: Awesome!
