learned about jobs in a school on Magazine pp. 2–5. Tell children
that this spread tells us about jobs people have in our community or
neighborhood.

How are the firefighter and police
officer alike? They both wear a uniform. How are they different? The
firefighter is a woman and the police officer is a man. How are the
firefighter and the bus driver alike? They both are women. They ride
in a big vehicle. How are they different? One fights fires, one drives
people around.
Use a concept map drawn in a white board to write the difference between a firefighter and and a police officer.

Description: What do you think happened in the cartoon
drawing of the police officer? Responses may vary.
Possible responses:
I think the man hit the light pole with his car and the police

Give repetition and clarification regularly.
Provide close proximity to the teacher.

Seat the child away from distractions whenever possible. Think critically about
seating arrangements.
Modifications
Accelerated: Have children look at the various items and have them tell
you what each one is, what worker would use it, and how they would
use it.
Pre-requisite: Display each item and have children match the item
to the photograph of the worker who uses it. Say the name of the
worker and encourage children to echo you.
