Universal Design for Learning (UDL):

This activity I have created using Kahoot supports students because it gives students a chance to use
technology to show what they have learned about plant and animal cells. It also gives students a chance to
learn using differentiation (technology), instead of just reading a textbook or completing a worksheet.
Describe the instructional activities that will occur PRIOR to the SRT activity and how you will introduce
the SRT activity.
Students will have prior knowledge of plant and animal cells. Students will have watched a short brainpop
video about plant and animal cells and will also be given a worksheet (one of plant and one of animal cells)
that they will use to color the different parts of the cells and then label them.
Describe the purpose of the SRT activity (check all that apply):
☐ Assess prior knowledge ☐ Anticipatory set (Create interest in a topic) ☐ To illuminate common
misconceptions ☒ Formative assessment of content knowledge (for purpose of differentiation and
mastery for ALL students) ☐ Summative assessment of content knowledge ☒ Test preparation
☐ Survey/Poll ☐ Discussion starter ☐ “Homework” collection ☐ Other (please explain):

Briefly describe what will happen DURING the SRT activity:

During this Kahoot activity, students will start off by getting an iPad out of the cart in the classroom. Next,
students will go to kahoot.it and type in the game code that I wrote down on the board so they can join the
game. Students will then answer each question on kahoot (we will go over commonly missed questions as a
class and students will be able to ask questions about content during this time as well). After the kahoot is
over, the top three students who received the most points will get to pick a prized from the prize basket.

Type of questions/prompts used in this activity (check all that apply):
☒ Multiple choice ☐ Multiple select ☒ True/False ☐ Yes/No
☐ Short open-ended response or fill-in the blank ☐ Longer open-ended response

If you are unable to provide a working sample of your questions, please list them below (8-10):
WORKING SAMPLE PROVIDED ON WEEBLY.
Right/Wrong answers: Will there be right/wrong answers to these questions?
☒ Yes ☐ No
☐ Mixed (Some will have correct answers, other will not.)
Immediate corrective feedback: Will you pre-select correct answers to some of all of the questions and
display correct response to the class after the SRT activity?
☒ Yes
☐ No
Why or why not? I will display the correct answers to each of the questions after the class completed the
question because I want students to see what they got incorrect and be able to ask any questions if they are
confused about a specific topic. This will also help them prepare for the test if they are seeing questions, they
are getting correct/incorrect because it will show them what they need to study more of in order to meet the
learning objective.
Describe what will happen AFTER the SRT activity?
After the kahoot activity is completed, I will make this a time for students to ask questions/explore their
learning. If there were commonly missed questions, we will go over these again as well.

How will the data be used?

The data that is collected during the Kahoot activity will be used for me to see what information I need to go
over again/spend more time on during classroom instruction. We will go over common missed questions as a
class after the kahoot is taken so we can address any common misconceptions among the students. The
students will also be able to see what they got correct/incorrect during the kahoot activity.

Describe your personal learning goal for this activity.

My personal goal for this activity is that my students are able to actively engage in the content they are
learning so they can expand on their knowledge. I am hoping that students are more willing to be engaged
during this activity because it is competitive and usually this sparks children’s interests, and also because
there is a prize given out at the end for the top three winners.

Reflective Practice:
After designing this kahoot activity, I feel like this activity will catch students interest and make them want to
learn. I also feel like this formative assessment will help students prepare for the future unit test they will be
taking over the material.
