Illuminating a cell is perhaps the most
challenging task in a correctional facility.
Cells are often unsupervised, inmates
occupy the cell for long periods of time,
and often the luminaires are within
reach. This robust luminaire must supply
precise optical control and also be built
to demanding standards. Being able
to withstand potential abuse and also
prohibit the concealment of contraband
are minimum requirements.
Medium to high mounting heights are
typical in dayrooms. Often in supervised
areas, these luminaires should have
the flexibility to be surface or pendant
mounted, individual or continuous row.
Though not within reach, polycarbonate
lenses and tamper resistant hardware
are preferred. Varying lumen packages
for different mounting heights and
illumination requirements is a necessity.
Several different ceiling systems are used
in corridors, depending on the security
level. Recessed luminaires are available
for use with a standard hard ceiling, a
security ceiling, or a grid ceiling. Low
profile surface mount fixtures are also
available. Choose from 1' wide fixtures
for narrow corridors, or up to 2' width
for larger corridor areas. Several levels of
illumination and durability are available.

Kitchens/Dining Healthcare Exam Rooms Recreational

Kitchen and dining areas are supervised
areas, though the luminaires still require
a degree of robustness. Additionally,
the luminaires must withstand potential
moisture and abuse in the food
processing area, often requiring wet
location, NSF listing, stainless steel,
and security lensing and hardware. The
dining area is typically higher mounting
heights and less prone to abuse, often
surface or pendant mounted, individual or
continuous row.
Often supervised areas, healthcare areas
of the correctional facility must take into
account potential abuse. Luminaires will
be subject to patients who are potentially
mentally or physically unstable, thus
requiring security lenses, rugged material,
and tamper resistant hardware – all while
providing exam, ambient, and reading
illumination.
Typically supervised areas in the interior
and exterior, recreational facilities are
important to the overall physical and
mental well-being of the inmate. Typically
mounted 20' and above, the luminaires
still must withstand potential abuse from
a variety of sports-related objects, while
offering a variety of illumination levels.
