COMMON S.A. Technical and Operation Documentation CMB-03

1. Safety
1.1. Transportation
Transportation should be arranged with available means of transportation under conditions securing protection of
the cargo against any mechanical damages. The cargo should be also protected against its displacement during
transportation.

1.2. Storage
Elements of the system should be stored in transportation packaging or without it on storage rags, in the premises at
the temperature of -20°C up to +60°C and humidity not exceeding 80%, free from any vapour of chemically active
compounds.

In the case of battery and accumulator power packs, the recommended storage temperature is ca. 20°C (the longest
storage time). During storage of alkaline and lithium battery packs, they should not be inside the device.

In the case of mains power packs and solar power pack with internal accumulator, connector should be disconnected
from the accumulator. Recharging is recommended when voltage on the accumulator falls below 2.4V (within an
open circuit – no-load). Non-observance of this condition may result in a significant reduction of capacity and
durability of the stored accumulator. When being charged, the accumulator should be positioned with “lid up”.

!
Storage of battery power packs with spent, discharged batteries inside the device is not allowed. In such a
case any possible electrolyte leakage can cause a damage to power pack and loss of guarantee rights.

1.3. Installation and Exploitation

During installation and connection of the CMB-03 modules, the guidelines specified in this User’s Manual should be
absolutely observed. The device should be exploited in accordance with its intended purpose and with observance of
rules and regulations pertaining to anti-explosion safety.

Spark-safe circuits of the CMB-03x module are allowed to be introduced in zones 2 and 1 while meeting the
requirements with respect to safety levels(ia or ib), and ensuring conformity of the sub-group of a potential
mixtures of gases with the sub-group of the device circuits (IIA or IIB). The CMB-03 device may be installed only
outside the zone potentially at risk from explosive atmospheres.

Spark-safe CMB-03x module is allowed to be connected to devices working in zones 1 or 2 only and

!
exclusively when all requirements and safety conditions pertaining to safe exploitation specified in
certificates and manufacturer’s operating manuals issued for these devices are observed and when
conformity of spark-safety parameters for the connected devices is met.

Chapter: Safety Page 5 of 44

COMMON S.A. Technical and Operation Documentation CMB-03

1.4. Interim Inspections

The CMB-03 Telemetry Module is intended for installation and operations outside zones potentially at risk from
explosive atmospheres with an option to introduce and connect its spark-safe circuits into zones 2 and 1. To be sure
that the device itself as well as elements of installation pertaining to it are in a condition which enables their safe
exploitation within the areas potentially at risk from explosive atmosphere, regular interim inspections should be
carried out or continuous supervision exercised by the qualified personnel should be guaranteed, and if necessary,
needed maintenance should be performed .

Detailed instructions referring also frequency and range of such inspections as well as scope of the undertaken
measures are specified in PN-EN 60079-14:2008 standard.

In the case of devices which have “X” symbol in their certificate number, special conditions of usage are applicable.
One should carefully learn the certificate documentation to be sure about the conditions of usage. The CMB-03
Telemetry Module does not contain any “X” mark in its certificate number, thanks to which its assembly and usage is
facilitated.

1.5. Service Repairs

Repairs may be only carried out by service units of COMMON S.A. Company

2. Introduction
The CMB-03 is an all-purpose and compact telemetry module enabling a remote access to the monitored devices. It
is provided with the built-in GSM module working in the CSD and GPRS modes. After establishment of connection,
the module is transparent for protocols used to carry out readouts from the monitored devices.

The module is provided with the integrated spark-safe circuits: communication port RS-GAZ2 and four two-status
inputs IN1÷IN4. The above enables direct connection of the CMB-03 module to the devices installed in zones 1 or 2
at risk of gases explosion. The module itself is installed outside the zone at risk of explosive atmosphere.

The RS-GAZ2 port during its activity ensures power supply for the connected device which is under reading.

Considering the RS-GAZ2 port making, three versions of the device can be offered:

CMB-03U power supply parameters and spark-safety parameters adjusted to the devices, among others
CMK-02, CRI-02 as well as CMK-01, and others meeting conditions of usage; Safety level “ia”,
device sub-group “IIB”.
CMB-03 P increased power supply parameters and spark-safety parameters adjusted to the devices, among
others MacBAT II, MacRej II and others meeting conditions of usage; Safety level “ia”, device sub-
group “IIB”.
CMB-03 T increased power supply parameters and spark-safety parameters adjusted to the devices, among
others MacBAT/2COM, and others meeting conditions of usage; Safety level “ib”, device sub-group
“IIA”.

The RS-GAZ2 port in the device has been designed in a special way so that it may co-operate also with the battery
CMK-01 multiscaler with the RS-GAZ1 interface or the MacBAT/2COM multiscaler.

The CMB-03 telemetry module has been designed with a great consideration for energy efficiency. Combined with
an option to programme activity of the device in any time window (24hr, weekly, annual and exclusions schedules)
enables to adjust its operation mode to the needs of readouts carried out for the given measurement station, and

Chapter: Introduction Page 6 of 44

COMMON S.A. Technical and Operation Documentation CMB-03

significantly reduce consumption of energy. Thanks to the above, life-span of batteries and maintenance-free
duration may be extended by several times.

The CMB-03 is provided with a standard service USB connector used to programme configuration parameters, to
carry out reading alarms/events registered in the module memory, hardware diagnostics of functional blocks
as well as the GSM module. All configuration parameters are accessible locally (via USB connector) as well
remotely when connected with CSD or GPRS (TCP or UDP). Moreover, the device is capable to locally and remotely
update the internal software (firmware). The CMB-03 is supplied along with the ConfigMB-03 configuration
software, and USB port drivers to be installed on PC. The CMB-03 module is visible on PC through a virtual serial
port COM.

Four two-status inputs INx are adjusted to mate with potential-free contacts, or outputs of OpenCollector type with
simultaneous meeting of parameters of exploitation. Change of status on INx inputs will cause registration of such
event in the module memory, and after the right programming – will result in sending of SMS message.

The module is provided with the internal integrated antenna. As an option, it may be provided with FME external
antenna socket.

A set of LED diodes on the front panel signals the basic parameters and operating condition of the device. These are,
among others, battery condition, alarm, USB, RS-GAZ2, GSM, CSD, GPRS, signal level, Rx, Tx transmission.

The primary advantage of the CMB-03 module is that it is battery-operated device, what eliminates the necessity to
lay a power supply wiring system and thus, eliminates also costs connected with such wiring development and
building as well as the need to apply expensive telemetry automatic control and measurement instruments boxes
powered by solar panels. The basic power supply (CMB-03/ZA alkaline power pack) guarantees 3-years’ operation
when station readouts are made in accordance with the schedules; on the other hand, when the station is
continuously monitored – ca. 2 months’ operation is guaranteed. Optional application of more power supply
modules (battery packs) will multiply duration of maintenance-free operation of the device.

In the case of the CMB-03x module, one of the dedicated power packs CMB-03/Zx may be used:

CMB-03/ZA alkaline battery power pack

CMB-03/ZL lithium battery power pack
CMB-03/ZE power pack 230V with Internal UPS system

Chapter: Structure Page 11 of 44

COMMON S.A. Technical and Operation Documentation CMB-03

Excessively discharged alkaline cells left in the device bring about a risk of an intrinsic leakage of
electrolyte and in consequence – cause damages to the power pack. Such damages are not covered with
any guarantee.
!
Moreover, the device is provided with a blown fuse indicator (BLOWN FUSE), which may be damaged in the case of
breakdown. Damaged fuse under load or when the TEST pushbutton is pressed, is being signalled with LED indicator
light.

It is not allowed to use in alkaline power packs any other cells than alkaline batteries with a voltage of
1.5V. Application of other batteries (e.g. lithium 3.6V) may cause damages to power supply systems and
to the w CMB-03x module. Such damages are not covered with any guarantee.
!
3.3. Lithium Power Pack
The CMB-03/ZL lithium power pack includes a pack of 6 pcs of 3.6V R20 lithium batteries. Available energy amounts
to ca. 300Whr, and this is three times more in comparison with alkaline power pack.

Fig. 3.5 - Lithium Battery Power Pack Inside

Under the lid, TEST pushbutton is placed which together with battery condition indicator on five LED diodes serve as
a control system of the accumulated battery charge. Pressing the TEST pushbutton will cause power pack loading

3.4. Mains Power Pack 230V with Internal UPS

The CMB-03/ZE power pack is recommended in the situation of continuous monitoring of the measurement point on
the stations equipped with 230 V supply wiring systems. In the case of 230 V voltage decay, the Internal UPS unit
powers the telemetry module within a period from one to several days depending on the operations mode. The total
available energy of fully charged accumulator amounts to ca. 10 Whr. Process of accumulator charging is signalled
with lighting or blinking of the red LED diode Charging (Ładowanie).

The pushbuttons ON and OFF are mounted inside the power pack. In the case when 230 V input supply is missing, it
is possible to manually force switching on or switching off the output voltage Uout (e.g. in order to save accumulator
energy or to switch Uout voltage after the accumulator has been replaced with the new/charged one). To this end,
the right pushbutton pressed and held for several second. The replacement is signalled with LED diode marked as
Uout, which is lights in green when output voltage is switched on. In the case, when the accumulator has not been
fully charged, pressing ON pushbutton will not cause switching on the output voltage Uout.

Fig. 3.7 - Means Power Pack with Built-in UPS – Inside

!
Prior to open the mains power pack lid, it must be ensured that 230 V mains supply to the device has been
cut off.

The power pack is provided with the internal surge protection in a form of varistors. PCMB-03/ZE connection to the
mains system does not require application of any additional surge protections. But it is recommended that circuit of
CMB-03/ZE supply is equipped with a suitably matched two-way overcurrent switch (e.g. S302 0,3...1A C) as well as
protective PE conductor is envisaged for this installation and connected in a proper way.

3.5. Solar Power Pack with Internal UPS

The CMB-03/ZS solar power pack is intended to work with a photovoltaic cell (solar battery) and appropriately
matched accumulator. The suitable set ensures uninterrupted power supply to the module even under severe
weather conditions.

Operating principle of signal diodes Charging (Ładowanie) and Uout as well as ON and OFF push-buttons functions
are the same as in the mains power pack.

Taking into consideration that the device is highly energy efficient, it is possible to use small and cheap photovoltaic
packs – solar cell + accumulator. Depending on the type and frequency of readings (operation schedules)
recommended in Table 2 solar packs ensure a high reliability and continuity of the telemetry module supply as well
as of the device subjected to reading.

Chapter: Structure Page 14 of 44

COMMON S.A. Technical and Operation Documentation CMB-03

Fig. 3.8 – Solar Power Pack with Built-in UPS - Inside

When being charged, the accumulator should be positioned vertically, and this is an optimal position with
its “lid up” – see Fig. 5.2. It is allowed to operate the accumulator positioned “at side” or
“perpendicularly”, but its deviation from the normal position should not exceed 90°. When the

!
accumulator is in another position than this with “lid up” and as a result of charging system breakdown,
overcharging will occur, the consequence could be electrolyte leakage from the accumulator and
damaging of the device.
During normal operation, the control system in the power pack protects the accumulator from charging
and excessive discharging.

Accumulator – solar pack
10W 20/30W 40/50W

Description of readouts types (immediate, periodic and monitoring) is inserted in the Table 8, Page 33.

3.6. USB Power Supply

The telemetry module may be powered via USB port of the connected PC. This is very convenient and offers a
possibility to power and carry out diagnostics of the device when during service inspection it turns out that
batteries/accumulators in the power pack are totally discharged. Immediately after the USB cable has been
connected, the modules starts to be powered with a voltage supplied via the USB port. Maximum current input does
not exceed 500mA. This ensures a full functionality of the device including GSM/GPRS transmission and the RS-GAZ2
port operation. But attention should be paid to a risk of faster discharge of accumulators in laptop type PCs. If
necessary, power supply from USB may be switched off using the software settings.

Respectively, in the configuration software ConfigMB-03, in the bookmark “Connections – “USB”, the field “USB
Power Supply” should be highlighted. On the other hand, to complete the above action in any terminal software RTS
signal in serial port settings should be activated.

In the case of making with an internal antenna, the CMB-03x module should not be mounted directly on
flat metal surfaces, in metal boxes and in any other places, where elements of surroundings arrangement
significantly weakens the GSM signal.
!
When in the location of installation a low GSM signal is received, the other operator should be chosen and device
with an external antenna socket should be used. The highest quality antenna should be connected and tightened. It
should be mounted in an optimal place. Such antenna should be placed at a distance of min. 25 cm from any other
devices and cables.

Cables should not be laid close to the right part of the main module casing including an internal antenna.

The CMB-03/Zx power pack module may be installed directly near to the CMB-03x main module. Power pack cable
terminated with a plug is mounted by the manufacturer in a permanent way and has a length of ca.40cm.

The main module and battery power packs (alkaline and lithium) may be mounted in any optional position.

Mains power pack and solar power pack, due to exploitation of accumulators, cannot be mounted in “upside down”
hanging position - Fig. 5.2 B. Also installation in C, D, E and F positions should be avoided. The most optimal position
is the position presented in the Fig. A.

5.2. CMB-03 Telemetry Module Connection

During installation and connection of the device in its working place the principle requirements as referred to in the
Section 1.3. as well as specified in this Section should be observed.

Multicore cables used to connect spark-safe circuits of the RS-GAZ2 and INx connectors introduced into zones at risk
of explosion as well as methods of their connection and wiring system laying must correspond with the principle
requirements stated in PN-EN 60079-14 standard. According to the p.12.2.2 of the above standard, cables of A type
or B type are allowed for usage.

The general requirements with respect to multicore cables in CMB-03 spark-safe circuits:

 permanent installation, effectively protected against mechanical damages,

 working temperatures range for cables being suitable for the location of their usage,
 minimum radial thickness of each cable core insulation - not less than 0.2mm,
 diaelectric strength of cable core- earth insulation - minimum 500V AC (rms),
 diaelectric strength of cable core- cable core - minimum 1000V AC (rms),
 diameter of wires in multiwire conductors - minimum 0.1mm,
 ends of multiwire conductors should be protected against separation of twisted pairs, e.g. by means of small
sleeves, but not only by means of soldering,

Fig. 5.3 - Cable End with Non – Insulated Metal Sleeve

 cores not used in zones at risk of explosion should be earth-connected or insulated by their connection on
terminal strips; insulation with insulating tape is not allowed.

Additionally, cables for spark-safe circuits should be separated from all cables of non-spark-safe circuits. Cables of
spark-safe circuits should be marked. In the case of colour marking – it should be a blue colour.

After connection of the device, the basic parameters should be set such as: parameters of transmission and RS-GAZ2
port power supply, PIN code for the SIM card, card telephone number, APN, password, operation mode, operation
schedule, etc. Parameters settings are carried out with the application of ConfigMB-03 service software.

In order to check correctness of connection and communication, communication with the connected device through
the connector of USB module can be tested. See Section 7.3.

5.2.1. RS-GAZ2 Port

The CMB-03 is capable to work with devices equipped with RS-GAZ2 and RS-GAZ1 interface once connected in the
correct way. Three types of making are available:

 “U” – dedicated, among others, to CMK-02, CMK-01, CRI-02 and others being compatible,
 “P” - dedicated, among others, to MacBAT II, MacRej II and others being compatible,
 “T” - dedicated, among others, to MacBAT/2COM and others being compatible.

Cable from the device subject to readout to the CMB-03 module should be connected through the connector
attached to the device (cable female plug), and cables should be connected under the right contacts (in accordance
with a diagram or description placed on the elevation). It is admissed to use an unshielded cable.

Fig. 5.4 - Applied Industrial Connectors of GDS Series, Hirschmann

!
It is necessary to remember to use a sealing gasket between a socket and a plug of Hirschmann
connector. In not used plugs, cable inlet should be closed with a rubber stopper.

An example of connection cables selection in terms of their types and lengths for certain versions of making is
presented. LiYY cable should not be used outside buildings without any additional shields. The presented examples
of cables sections and lengths ensure a voltage drop in the end of power supply line (V+, GND) which does not
exceed 0.6V under the maximum admissible current input for the given version of making. Such selection will ensure
a proper operation of the powered devices. When the receiver absorbs less current, cable with a section which is
proportionally smaller or with a maximum length which is proportionally longer may be used.

5.2.2. Two-Status Inputs IN and Input Adapter

The CMB-03 is provided with four two-status inputs (two on IN12 connector and two on IN34 connector) adjusted to
work with non-potential contacts or outputs of Open Collector (OC) type when parameters of exploitation are met.

Correct detection of statuses on inputs will be performed on condition that:

• fault resistance Rzw < 50k ,

• non-fault resistance Rroz > 1,5M
• minimum duration of fault, non-fault T > 0,75sec.

Two-core or four-core cables of LIYY type can be used. It is recommended to use the shortest possible connection
cables for IN inputs. The admissible lengths are the same as for the RS-GAZ2 connector. In this case, requirements
with respect to the correct core diameter in relation to cable length and load is not applicable.

The way of cables fixing to plugs is the same, as in the case of the RS-GAZ2 connector plug and it is presented in the
Fig.5.6.

Fig. 5.8 - Description of IN12 and IN34 Connectors Contacts (View of Men Socket on Casing)

Chapter: Telemetry Module Installation Page 24 of 44

COMMON S.A. Technical and Operation Documentation CMB-03

Outer diameter of the cable introduced into N12 and IN34 connector plugs should fall within a range from 4.5mm up
to 6mm.

!
Attention! IN1, IN2, IN3, IN4 and RS-GAZ2 circuits are considered as separate spark-safe circuits, but in the
CMB-03x they are not galvanically separated one from each other.

INx(-) contacts and RS-GAZ2(GND) contact are internally working on the same potential. It may be important in co-
operation with devices, in which OUT circuits in order to operate in a correct way require galvanic separation.

In order to ensure a proper co-operation between OUT outputs in the CMK-02 and IN inputs in the w CMB-03x (with
the RS-GAZ2 cable connection between them):

 on OUT-IN line, interface with galvanic insulation e.g. CZAK-03/x-x-D, should be used,
 or, inside the CMB-03x the additional Input Adapter Inx should be installed.

The above refers to the CMB-03x module including a motherboard marked as CMB-03/10/v71 or CMB-03/10/v72.

Input Adapter INx has a form of an additional board mounted inside the telemetry module casing. Installation is
easy and possible to carry out by the User.

Fig. 5.9 - Input Adapter INx - View

Chapter: Telemetry Module Installation Page 25 of 44

COMMON S.A. Technical and Operation Documentation CMB-03

To carry out this procedure:

1. Remove connectors plugs (white) from the motherboard that lead to outside connector IN12 and IN34,
2. Turn them by 180 ° with their openings up,
3. Pull on Adapter pin strip (male),
4. Place Adapter with pin strips (female) in connectors on the CMB-03x motherboard.

Fig. 5.10 - Method of INx Adapter Mounting

The adapter embraces all four IN inputs. In each path a slider switch (of dip-switch type) is mounted by means of
which the type of the connected output is chosen:

– left position: CMK-02 type,

– right position: OC (GND)type.

Fig. 5.12 - Connection Diagram Between Inputs with Adapter to Other Devices - OC(GND)

In order to co-operate with the CMK-02, analogically as in the Fig. 5.11, a switch on the Adapter should be set at left
position (CMK-02).

Chapter: Telemetry Module Installation Page 27 of 44

COMMON S.A. Technical and Operation Documentation CMB-03

In order to co-operate with other devices provided with OC(GND) outputs or galvanically insulated outputs,
analogically as in the Fig. 5.12,, a switch on the Adapter must be set at right position (OC GND) or Adapter may not
be installed at all.

Application of INx Adapter is admitted in accordance with the supplement to the ATEX. Certificate. It does not
influence a spark-safety and spark-safety parameters remain unchanged.

5.2.3. Power Supply Zx Connector

The CMB-03 is provided with power supply connector to connect one of the dedicated power packs. These are non-
spark-safe circuits. It has also different pins span, what makes it impossible to carry out mistaken connection, or
change between spark-safe circuits. Moreover, plugs of spark-safe circuits are marked with blue colour for their
identification.

Protection degree of the casing will be maintained only when connection cables with appropriate diameters
are used and when cable glands are tightened in a proper way, the sealing gasket is correctly placed, and
the casing lid is screwed.
!
5.2.4. Service USB Connector

On the front panel of the CMB-03 module, USB connector of B type is mounted. It serves to connect PC computer in
order to:

 configure parameters of the telemetry module,

 enable local transmission from the connected monitored device – USB RS-GAZ2 (channel established at
active DTR signal from the COM port),
 carry out diagnostics of the CMB-03 module operation condition,
 monitor activity of remote GSM/GPRS connection,
 provide power supply (by default - at connection) during service maintenance to the CMB-03 module. It is
possible to switch off power supply from USB at active RTS signal of virtual COM port. An option to switch off
power supply from USD is also available on the bookmark “Settings” of ConfigMB-03 software.

To connect the CMB-03 module with the computer, USB cable with a max. length of 3 m should be used, which is
terminated with: male USB-A plug, male USB-B plug (as a standard printer cable).

For the first connection, USB drivers to serve the CMB-03 module should be installed. The drivers and instructions
for installation as well as the configuration programmed named ConfigMB-03 in its latest version are supplied
together with the device, or can be downloaded from the web site www.common.pl .

When to the CMB-03 a spark-safe devices are connected, then to the service USB connector only and
exclusively computer equipment such as notebooks may be connected, which are powered by their own
batteries and are not connected with any other cable to other electric circuits or networks
!

5.2.5. FME Antenna Connector

In the making version marked as „G”, on the casing right side, a socket of FME type is installed. It is used to connect a
suitable GSM external antenna.

In order to ensure correct and reliable transmission of data in the CSD modes and particularly – GPRS, one should
take care about a right selection of antenna , characteristic of a good quality and sufficient signal gain.

It is forbidden to fit the antenna in places with significant signal attenuation caused by buildings and external objects
- cubicles, metal boxes, containers, ferroconcrete structures, basements situated under the ground level.

Length of antenna cable should not ever be longer than it is necessary. Any excessive length of the cable results in
signal loss and increased consumption of energy during data transmission.

6.2. Battery Replacement

The User is informed about condition of charge still remained in a battery by means of:

• diode light visible on the casing lid,

• information contained in sent emergency SMS messages,
• readouts of diagnostics statuses performed with the ConfigMB-03 software.

The LED diode situated on the elevation informs about condition of the device battery. The diode produces a
series of short flashes reflecting battery condition expressed as a percentage and presented in the Table 7.In the
case, when battery condition is equal to or drops below 20%, the diode produces cyclically one short flash ca. every
3 seconds.

6.2.1. Alkaline and Lithium Battery Replacement

Fig. 6.3 - Sequence of Operations During Batteries Replacement in Battery Power Packs

To facilitate the above, in the Fig. 6.3 the recommended sequence of operations during replacement of batteries for
the new ones is presented. After removal of spentt batteries, the following operations should be accomplished:

1. Partly place a battery with its negative pole in a metal holder.

2. Move (press down) the battery towards the pole situated below, leaving in this way a room for the entire
battery.

Chapter: Operation of CMB-03 Telemetry Module Page 32 of 44

3. Push the battery completely into a basket (downward).

4. In the same way replace the remaining batteries.
5. Press and hold REPLACE pushbutton for minimum 3 seconds. Thanks to that the main CMB-03x module
will receive information about replacement of batteries for the new ones.

6.2.2. RTC Battery Replacement

In order to secure RTC clock backup, a lithium battery of the CR2032 type was used. The approximate duration of it is
ca, 5 years, but it is recommended to replace it more frequently, e.g. every 3 years. A symptom that this battery
replacement is needed, is loss of time after decay of other power supply sources powering the main CMB-03
module. When the device detects that the displayed time is incorrect, the CMB-03 will try to load the time from the
GSM network. A precondition of time synchronization with the GSM network is the SIM card installation, correct
configuration of the device and setting of both GSM switches(software and hardware) at ON position. Additionally,
the device will cyclically i.e. once a month, automatically perform synchronization with the GSM Network.

Fig. 6.4 - RTC Battery Replacement

A precondition of time synchronization is to programme the telephone number for the installed SIM card.
!
6.3. Batteries/Accumulator Duration
In the below tables, the approximate duration of battery and accumulator power packs in relation to the operation
mode with the CMK-02 multiscaler (for typical exploitation conditions: ambient temperature 20°C, signal level 60%,
battery condition 100% or UPS condition 100% without charging) is presented.

The specified parameters are only approximate and in practice they may differ from a real life time.

Operation under extremely low temperatures and at low level of the GSM signal may reduce cells duration even by
40%...50%. At the same time, operation under favourable conditions may significantly prolong cells duration.

In order to ensure a long maintenance-free exploitation, cells and accumulators of the highest quality, produced by
the renowned manufacturers should be always used. It is recommended to order batteries and accumulators with
the Sales Department of Common company as their types are tested and optimally matched.

6.5. Software Dignostics

Despite the basic diagnostics information submitted by signal diodes, the CMB-03 is provided with an extended
software maintenance –diagnostics functionality consisting of:

 Many measurement parameters informing about the device operations condition, which are available after
connection with the ConfigMB-03 software in the bookmark “Diagnostics”.
 Events and alarms registered in the CMB-03 memory, mentioning date and time of their occurrence
described in detail in the Table 13,
 “CMB-03 Terminal” window in the ConfigMB-03 software, where current information about the device, the
GSM module, GSM, GPRS connection etc. is displayed. Information preview does not require any activation
of configuration connection, which blocks the data transparent transmission. It is enough to establish
terminal connection through the COM port.
 A special communication frame reading Diagnostic Light (DGL) structure within TCP, UDP, CSD connection
without any necessity to enter the configuration mode. It is also accessible within connection via USB in the
ConfigMB-03 software.
The above enables quick and easy collection of the basic information about the device e.g. after periodic
readout of data from the connected device (e.g multiscaler). Information available in DGL (among others):
ambient temperature, battery condition, power pack type, signal level, IN inputs status, present voltage of
battery/ accumulator. DGL documentation available on request – nr ConfigMB3/103U, file CMB-
03_DGL_103U.pdf.

7. Communication
The CMB-03 telemetry module during activity of the RS-GAZ2 port may power the device subject to readout.
Technical and spark-safety parameters differ depending on making version and they are referred to in Sections
4.5.and 5.3.

Transmission speed of the service virtual COM port on the USB connector is always the same as the speed set for
the RS-GAZ2 port.

Attention! Taking into consideration a diversity of applied models of telephone modems (and V.xx protocols
used in them) for CSD connections, it is recommended to set a speed of 9600b/sec. CSD connections with
the CMB-03 modules with speeds other than 9600b/sec may be inefficient.

In the case of connection established between the CSD from the PSTN modem through PLUS GSM operator !
and the CMB-03 module, for the called telephone number switching off the HSCSD mode for the given SIM
card should be ordered with the Customer Service Office (this is described as switching B17 option to B16
option).

7.1. USB ↔ CMB-03

At the first usage (CMB-03 connection to the USB port), the delivered drivers should be installed on the PC
computer. Installation is carried out in a standard way. Instructions for drivers installing and uninstalling are
available on the web site www.common.pl .

The CMB-03 is provided with a standard service USB connector used for programming of configuration parameters,
readouts of alarms/events registered in the module memory, hardware diagnostics of the functional blocks as well
as diagnostics of the GSM module. All configuration parameters accessible locally (via the USB connector) may be
also configured remotely, through the CSD or GPRS connection.

Additionally, in the case of connection arranged with the terminal software on the chosen COM port, it is possible
to preview information sent by the CMB-03 – data link monitoring, device statuses preview.

Moreover, the device is capable to locally or remotely update the internal software (firmware). The CMB-03 is
delivered along with the ConfigMB-03 configuration software and the USB port drivers.

7.2. CMB-03 ↔ RS-GAZ2

A precondition of the right communication with the attached device subject to readout (e.g. multiscaler) is a
correct configuration of parameters and the RS-GAZ2 port speed in the CMB-03 according to the settings of the
device subject to readout as well as a proper connection of both devices. By default, transmission speed of the
RS-GAZ2 port is 9600b/sec. It is possible to set speed value up to 115200b/sec.

The RS-GAZ2 port of the CMB-03 module is capable to power the device subject to readout over the period of
transmission. Making version (U, P, T; output parameters) must be properly matched to the co-operating device.
Voltage supply delivered from the RS-GAZ2 port may be configured according to the needs: - always switched on, -
always switched off, - only during transmission.

7.3. USB ↔ RS-GAZ2

The CMB-03 module connected through the USB connector is visible on the computer as a serial COM port. It is
possible to conduct a direct transmission with the device subject to readout connected to the RS-GAZ2 port through
the service USB port. To this end, it is necessary to set (activate) DTR signal in parameters of the chosen COM port.
This will result in establishment of the transmission transparent channel USB ↔ RS-GAZ2. Transmission of data
carried out by means of any software used for readouts of multiscalers.

The readout can be carried out on condition that transmission parameters for the RS-GAZ2 port in the CMB-03 are
configured as compatible with parameters set for the connected device. Transmission parameters for a serial port
on the USB connector are always the same as parameters for the RS-GAZ2 port programmed in the CMB-03.

9. Environment Protection
9.1. Packaging Materials Waste Handling
Packages, in which devices were delivered, should not be thrown into containers for municipal waste.

Packaging has been marked with a recycling symbol. According to the Law on Packagings and Packaging Materials
Waste, the User is obliged to ensure that individual elements of packaging are thrown into right containers for
separate collection.

9.2. Spent Batteries and Worn Out Equipment Handling

Replaced batteries/accumulators as well as the device itself after their service life in no way and under penalty of
fine are not allowed to be thrown away into containers for municipal waste, and this is warned by the below symbol.

Both batteries (accumulators), as well as other parts and sub-units of the device contain hazardous and harmful
substances, and due to this fact they are subjected to the regulations of law referring to their collection and
recycling. With the purpose to prevent these dangerous substances from penetrating the natural environment, the
system of collection, recycling and processing of electric and electronic waste has been implemented in Poland.

If battery or the entire device replacement is done by the service personnel of the COMMON company, than such
waste will be taken back to the company’s seat where it will be secured and then passed to the recycling
organization. If replacement is carried out by the representative of the User’s company, the conduct should be in
accordance with the principles of worn out electronic equipment handling, as implemented in the User’s company
(e.g. environmental management systems in accordance with ISO 14001).

In any other case (e.g. when in the company any rules referring worn out electronic equipment handling has not
been yet implemented), any spent batteries or complete devices should be delivered to the respective collection
point. Information about such free of charge collection points is available e.g. on the below web site:

http://www.elektrosmieci.pl/

as well as in the web sites of municipal and local offices.
