Lesson Plan 11/17/19

Objective: ​The students will play “Old MacDonald Had a Farm” as an ensemble in time with the
conductor using good tone, intonation, and correct fingerings

Procedures:
- The class will set their instruments down and stand up and do some stretches of the body
- The students will tap tap tap the first 4 notes of the D scale
- The students will tap tap tap the last 4 notes of the D scale
- The students will play the D scale up in the “run pony” pattern
- Starting on the high D the students will tap tap tap down the scale
- The students will play the D scale up on the “run pony” and pause at the top and then go
down the scale
- Students will look over “Old MacDonald” briefly and then read the first four measures
with the repeat as a group
- Feedback will be given and music will be played again if necessary
- The students will play the last eight measures
- Feedback will be given and the students will play the last eight measures again
- Students will be given the opportunity to ask any questions
- Students will play all of “Old MacDonald” as an ensemble

Assessment:
- The teacher will asses the student’s progress from warming up to playing the entire piece
of “Old MacDonald Had a Farm”
- The teacher will assess the student’s comprehension of the D scale fingering/position by
the tap tap tap method
- The teacher will asses the student’s ability to play a D scale in sections and as an
ensemble while using good tone, intonation, and correct fingering/hand position
- After the student’s play all of “Old MacDonald” the teacher will asses the student’s
understanding of the music and the key of D major, as well as their use of good tone,
time, intonation, and hand position/fingerings

National Standards:
- MIB.10 The student will demonstrate preparatory instrumental basics and playing
procedures, including
- 1. identification and selection of an appropriate instrument;
- 2. identification of the parts of the instrument;
- 3. procedures for care of the instrument;
- 4. proper playing posture and instrument position;
- 6. string student—bow hold and left-hand position; and

- MIB.12 The student will demonstrate ensemble skills at a beginning level, including
- 1. balancing instrumental timbres;
- 2. making adjustments to facilitate correct intonation;
- 3. matching dynamic levels and playing style;
- 4. responding to conducting patterns and gestures; and
- 5. maintaining a steady beat at various tempos in the music literature being
studied.
