EFFAT UNIVERSITY’S ARAB
STUDIES CENTRE (EUASC)
Our EUASC offers a range of services for students,
faculty, and researchers. A platform for both
developing dialogue and achieving greater levels
of understanding between the Arab heritage,
culture, language and people and the rest
of the world, EUASC is proud to promote
human, and global, interaction.

The Centre has two main goals:

(1) to provide knowledge about
Arab history, culture, politics
and religion, and (2) to foster
mutual understanding and
respect across cultures,
countries and societies. Our
unique language and culture
programmes are just one of the
ways in which we aim to meet
these crucial goals.

THE
COSMOPOLITAN
City of
JEDDAH
BRIDE OF THE RED SEA

The most liberal and cosmopolitan of all our

Saudi cities, Jeddah is a city of wonders,
rich with tradition, history, culture and
a unique heritage.

1_00112409_Effat Arabic for Non-Arabic Speakers_A5 Brochure_v7.indd 9 21/05/2015 10:12

Found in the western region of the Kingdom,
Jeddah is a bustling hub for tourism and trading.
The city is the largest seaport on the Red Sea,
and the second largest in Saudi Arabia after
the capital Riyadh.

Thanks to its location at the heart of the region

– within two hours flying distance from most
capitals in the Middle East and Africa and at the
junction of international airlines taking off to all
major cities – Jeddah has been a port and trading
city for centuries. The fourth largest industrial
city in Saudi Arabia after Riyadh, Jubail and
Yanbu, it’s also the second commercial centre
of the Middle East after Dubai. Today, it’s home
to many government offices and is known in the
Kingdom for its shopping districts, upscale
department stores, boutiques, restaurants and
cafés. Jeddah residents are a diverse, multi-ethnic
mix, which has had a delicious impact on Jeddah’s
wonderfully varied cuisine.

1_00112409_Effat Arabic for Non-Arabic Speakers_A5 Brochure_v7.indd 11 21/05/2015 10:12
As one of Saudi Arabia’s primary resort cities,
Jeddah is also home to the Corniche (waterfront
area) – the largest in the Kingdom with a range
of luxury hotels, beaches and resorts clustered
around it. To the north of the city you’ll find
a further string of exceptional beach resorts.
Thanks to Jeddah’s location on the Red Sea,
the flora and fauna are incredible, making Scuba
diving a major attraction for our many visitors.
Jeddah is also proud to offer some of the
Kingdom’s best horseback riding equestrian
clubs. Because of its long and rich history,
you’ll find a dozen fascinating museums covering
a variety of subjects, alongside one of the largest
open-air art galleries in the world.

As part of our truly international community here

in Jeddah, we house more than 100 consulates
for countries in the Americas, Middle East, Africa,
Far East, and European Union.
