Unit: living world Sabha Hamad
LESSON: Food web Student teacher

Ms. Zuleika Mohammed Bin Khaled

MST School

Class 3 Date November 1, 2019

Select
What standards or LOs were being addressed in the lesson? Students will be able to: Construct a
food web and describe what is a food web.
How did you cater for learners with special needs, and for differentiation?
Emergent level: I give each of them a worksheet with pictures. Students must connect the
images with each other using a pen.

Development level: Students will create a food web on paper by using images to show how they
connected with each other using glue and pen.
Master level: Students will create their own food web by choosing the environment, drawing the
animals they live in, and then to show how they connected with each other by using a pen.

At the end of the lesson, I give all groups A3 sheet with a set of images for different
environments. Students should work together in the group by creating a food web by using
images and connect with each other. Then I will choose one student for each group to stand in
front of the students in the classroom. They will be “speaker” about their work.

How did you use positive reinforcement? Methods? For what? While students were activity, I used
positive words, like good, excellent and good work.

How did you sequence or scaffold activities so that they built gradually towards the learning
objectives?
I used his smart board to present the lesson to students about the food web and taught students
how to create a food web. Then, I distributed the activity to students according to their level.
Finally, students made a food web poster and explained it in class.
Overall aim and context of the lesson (that is, describe the lesson’s place in the unit of work.
What did students need to know before today’s LOs were addressed? What topic comes next and
how did today’s lesson prepare students for that?)
It was a unit about the living world. In this lesson, students have to learn how to make a food
chain. They will also learn how to create a food web. This lesson prepares students to learn about
the ecosystem.

Describe
Who is the lesson for? The lesson was for third-grade boys and girls.
Where did the lesson take place? The lesson was explained in the science classroom.
What were you aiming to achieve in your lesson? I aimed through this lesson to link what
students knew about the food chain, and try to apply it to the food web, according to the rules of
the concept of the food web.
What experiences did you provide to the students to help them to achieve your aims for them? I
used an image of the shape of the food web, so students have an idea of how to create a food web,
making it easier for them to understand the lesson.
Analyze
Were students excited, always occupied, and remained on task during the lesson? The students
were very entertained during the activity, as the students created their own food web by using
pictures of animals and plants that were available to them.
Why do you think the students responded the way that they did? I think the students interacted
with the lesson well by creating a food web with photos that were presented to them. As the
pictures helped to understand the lesson clearly. According to Brunner’s theory, learning with
pictures contributes to creating a mental image of things.
How well did your teaching relate to the students’ prior understanding? Students' prior
knowledge can be activated by reminding them of how to make a food chain. This contributes to
motivating them to learn.
Appraise
Explain the nature of the experience from the students’ perspective.
It was a very enjoyable and useful experience. I contributed to my teaching using tools that help
me explain the lesson, such as video. This method helped students understand the lesson clearly.
Did your lesson meet your teaching goals? Use your students’ performance on the end of lesson
assessment as support (Give proof in your portfolio)
Yes, the lesson has achieved my goals, as all students have been able to create their own food
web using different animal games.
Transform
How might you enhance student learning of this lesson in the future? In the future if I teach this
lesson to students, I will use an animal game and ask students to create a food web.
What are the implications for your professional practice of helping students to enhance their
learning in this particular way? (i.e. what skill will you have to develop or learn? What
professional development will you have to undertake?) Students have the ability to imagine how
an animal lives to eat the other animal. This will further help them understand the lesson and
enable them to create food web. This enhances their knowledge and motivates them to learn.
